“You should let her choose some floors. She can see what we have in the warehouse,” Seth suggested.

“Yeah, bring her to work for a day. I’m sure she’ll jump right into action with all of us,” Bear laughed. “I’m sure she’d put us all to shame.”

Brandon, who had been silent all morning, chimed in. “Get her here, boy, so we can keep going.”

Brandon had always been a rough character, and Blake was even surprised he’d shown up to help him. Blake agreed and left them all to finish up while he went to get Niev. He stepped off the porch and was about to shift when he heard footsteps behind him. It was Seth.

“Can we talk?”

Blake didn’t like the idea. “Do I have a choice?”

Seth shrugged his shoulders. “Probably not.”

Instead of shifting, Blake walked toward the village with Seth by his side.

“Look, I didn’t know father was going to ask the both of you to get involved with the Skadu Wolves.”

“Get to the point, Seth.” Thinking back to that conversation irritated Blake and he let Seth feel it.

“I just wanted to thank you for what you said.”

“Me not wanting to rip your throat out to take your alpha title?”

Seth nodded.

“Seth, I was never interested in your title. My wolf wanted to challenge you, but I never wanted to take anything from you.”

“I guess I always knew it, but there was always a little doubt there.”

They reached the tree line surrounding the village and Blake started to undress. “I’ll see you later.”

After shifting, he picked up his clothes and started running through the village, startling some of the children running around and sped toward Niev. This time, he took the shortest way, unable to bear another second without her. The closer he got, the more excited he became to see her, as did his wolf.

He broke through the trees and ran toward the porch, sticking his head through the tiny door. He’d expected her to be there, but she wasn’t. Disappointed, he turned to search for the truck. It was still there but where was she? He took a deep breath and concentrated on her scent. She was here somewhere, so he followed her scent around the house and saw her laying on her back on a picnic blanket with her nose stuck in a book.

He tried to be as quiet as possible and snuck up on her from behind. Only a few feet away, he lowered his body, stalking toward her. He watched her carefully and saw that she was trying to hide a grin.

“Hello Blake.”

She put the book down and looked at him with a bright smile. He growled playfully and jumped on top of her, placing his paws to her sides. She giggled, reached up, and started to scratch his furry chest. He licked her face and rolled over to his side, lying next to her with his paws up in the air, like a dog that wanted to be petted. She sat up and laid her head on his stomach running her fingers through his fur.

“You’re so soft.” She had her eyes closed and seemingly enjoyed the cuddles. “I was thinking about a quick lunch before heading out? Unless you need a break?”

He turned and shook his head, standing up and taking a few steps back. His bones broke apart and his skin shrunk to fit his human form. The grass tickled his bare feet as he turned around to look at Niev. She was kneeling on the picnic blanket, looking up at him with amazement and desire.

“Not sure which sight I adore more: your wolf, or you naked.”

He leaned down and grabbed his pants. “You can adore them both the same. No need to pick a favorite.”

She got to her feet and started to fold the blanket. “I like your approach. How was your day? You look exhausted.”

He wrapped his arm around her waist and pressed his lips on her cheek. “It was good, but I’m glad to be spending the afternoon with you.”

“What time do we go to the celebrations?”

“They start at sundown.”

They walked back to the cabin and had a quick lunch before getting ready to leave for the grocery store. Blake opened the door to the truck and closed it behind Niev after she’d settled in the seat. He sat down and let the engine roar to life.
