Niev’s smile beamed from ear to ear. “Of course.”

“Niev is carrying twins.”

Out of the corner of his eye, Blake saw Kareem sit up straight as Ann’s jaw dropped, her eyes wide open. He could see how she was trying to process the information.

“Twins?”

Niev nodded excitedly. “Yes, two girls to be exact.”

“You know the gender already?”

“We asked Christa to see if she could find a way to test my blood to see what we’re having,” Niev explained.

Still shocked, Ann looked around and searched for her mother and Layla. “You knew and you didn’t tell me?”

Layla grinned mischievously. “We didn’t want to spoil the surprise.”

Kareem leaned over to Niev. “The moon goddess has truly blessed you. Only the strongest women are entrusted with two of her children at once. I’ve heard of your bravery and kindness, but this is the truest testimony of your strength.”

Niev blushed. “Thank you, Kareem.”

“I can’t speak on behalf of my pack, but I am sure they would be honored if you visited us one day.”

“That is very kind of you. I would love to visit one day. So far, I’ve only seen this pack and it would be wonderful to meet more.” She paused and seemed a little ashamed looking from Ann to Kareem. “Where is your pack?”

Kareem seemed excited that Niev was interested enough to ask more questions. “It’s far down south in the mountains.”

“So, you hide in the mountains?” Niev asked to clarify.

Kareem nodded his head. “Yes, where the moon goddess has created a beautiful lake and waterfalls.”

“That sounds beautiful.” Her eyes glowed as she tried to picture what Kareem had just described to them.

“It’s breathtaking,” Ann added.

“Do you not call the moon goddess Selene like our pack does?”

Kareem smiled. “Our goddess has many names, but I and many from our pack have chosen to call her as what she is.”

She took a moment to think about Kareem’s words. “Each pack seems to be so different. The Skadu Pack had totally different values than ours and yours seems to be so different too. I would love to hear more about your pack.”

And that is what Kareem did. Blake watched as he and Niev talked all evening about his pack. He patiently answered all her questions, and they didn’t even stop over dinner. Kareem seemed eager to share everything she wanted to know and in return, he asked her many questions about her upbringing and how she’d managed to adjust so quickly to the “wolf world” as he called it. Niev and Kareem seemed to be in their own little bubble.

“She’s truly amazing.” Ann sat down next to him and watched their mates interact. “Kareem is usually very shy, never pushing himself into the spotlight.”

Blake sighed with content. “You should see her with Seth. He has basically adopted her as his little sister.”

“Take good care of her, Blake. I’ve only been here for a few hours, but you are a completely different person. I enjoy seeing you like this.”

“I would do anything for her.”

True Love

Niev was nervous–a good kind of nervous, her heart pounding in her chest. She was sitting up in bed, unable to sleep any longer. It was the day she’d been waiting for all her life, without even knowing whatit would look like. She’d spent the past few weeks planning and preparing, looking forward to this day. Now that it was here, she was barely able to wrap her head around it. It felt like a dream, like something surreal.

A warm hand slid under her shirt and caressed her spine. She turned her head and saw Blake’s sleepy but smiling face.

“I’m sorry, Blake. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
