“You look stunning,” Mayra complimented, her eyes filling with tears.

Lyliann stepped up and zipped the dress in the back. “I have to agree with Mayra. You look breathtaking.”

“Thank you.”

Lyliann grabbed a brush and combed Niev’s hair before loosely braiding it and adding a few flowers, letting her natural curls flow. Layla joined them a few moments later with Aaron in her arms wearing a beautiful rose-tinted dress while Mayra wore a dark blue one.

Niev was so focused on keeping her emotions under control that she barely registered the conversation the others were having. She nodded and shook her head when asked if she wanted to wear make-up or had enough food but overall, she had no idea what was happening around her. At some point, Mayra handed her a pair of sandals and guided her downstairs and into the office where she helped Niev with the jewelry.

Niev’s heart started to pound in her chest, and her hands started to shake. She wasn’t nervous about doing the right thing, but she knew this was life changing.

A knock on the door pulled her out of her trance, and she heard Michael’s voice. “Seth sent me to tell you that they’ve left the village. All of you are now free to walk over without Blake seeing you.”

Niev turned to see Layla handing a sleeping Aaron into his arms. “Thank you, love. Would you like to walk with us all?”

He nodded, his gaze falling on Niev. “You look amazing.”

“Thank you.”

Mayra took her arm. “Are you ready?”

“Do we have everything? What about the rings and the knife?” Niev asked, looking around.

“Tanner took the rings with him, as well as the dagger,” Mayra reassured her.

“I think I am ready.”

Niev and Mayra followed Layla, Lyliann, and Michael, who was holding Aaron in his arms out into the warm evening air. The sun was already setting and only the last few rays lit up the sky. The walk through the village and to the path that would lead them to Selene’s tree seemed much longer than usual. Niev had the feeling that no matter how many steps she took, she hadn’t moved closer to her destination. After what felt like hours, they’d finally reached the end of the path where Seth was waiting for her.

“Blake told me that usually your father would walk you to him. He has asked me to do the honors.”

Niev had to take a few deep breaths and hold on tight to Mayra. Blake had really outdone himself.

Seth came closer, his face softening. “Only if you like of course. I can’t replace your father, but I would like to be by your side if you wish.”

A little shaky, she whispered, “Yes, please.” To lighten her mood and that of everyone else, she quickly added, “I might fall if you don’t hold me.”

He smiled and held his arm out for her to hold onto. “If necessary, I’ll carry you.”

Mayra leaned into Niev and kissed her cheek, and Lyliann did the same with Seth before they both followed Michael, Aaron, and Layla onto the clearing.

She held onto Seth as they waited for everyone to settle. They stood far enough away from the tree line that she wouldn’t be able to be seen from the clearing. As the last sunshine faded away a wolf started singing, and Seth looked down at her.

“Are you ready?”

“I’ve been ready, just please don’t let me fall.”

“I would never.”

They stepped forward, past the trees, and onto the clearing. Niev gasped. It was beautiful, purple lanterns hanging from Selene’s tree shining down on them like stars. Seth slowly and carefully led her onto a small path that divided the pack into two. The aisle was framed by large white candles and was covered in white rose pedals.

Her gaze followed the path to the roots of Selene’s tree where her eyes locked with Blake’s. He was standing tall, in dark jeans and a crème white shirt, his long hair falling in waves past his shoulder. Niev’s heart skipped at least three beats as she stared at his mesmerizing stature and his loving smile. Seth led her down the aisle, his arm giving her support and guiding her as everything around her blurred until all she could see was Blake. The closer she got, the brighter his eyes beamed, radiating love and adoration.

With the last few steps Blake came closer and reached for her.

Seth gently laid her hand in Blake’s and said, “Take care of her.”

“Always.” Blake’s voice was a mere whisper as he reached for her cheek with his other hand wiping away Niev’s silent tears that she hadn’t even noticed running down her cheeks. “You look breathtaking.”
