“How are you feeling?”

She looked up at him and sighed. “You can feel it right? I mean how overwhelmed I am.”

He nodded and she looked down at the book hiding her face from him.

“I like it. Especially that I seem to be able to talk to your wolf, but it’s just all so much at the same time.”

“I feel the same too. Though I think for you, it’s even more.”

“It’s not just that but the more we discover about us, it feels like we are…” She paused, and he could feel her anxiety spike up. “Well, we’re becoming much more different than anyone else. I’m having twins, we can feel each other, and now I can hear your wolf. I don’t want anyone looking at us and feeling as if we are becoming too different to fit in.”

He hadn’t even thought about that. All she wanted was to fit in and all this wasn’t helping her. Or at least, that’s what she thought. He pulled her closer and she laid her head on his chest.

“I know all you want is to fit in and be like the others, but this won’t stop you. Everyone will see it as a blessing from Selene, and blessings are a good thing.”

“I hope so.” She sounded nervous, but his touch seemed to soothe her.

He held her close, calming her while she immersed herself in the book. It seemed as if she wanted to escape her own thoughts. After an hour, her emotions settled and fatigue took over her mind. She fell asleep in his arms, so he carried her to bed and tucked her in.

The Sacrifice

As usual, Niev woke up with Blake and they got ready together. After the workload for him and the pack had eased, Blake didn’t have to rush off as early anymore and it had become a routine for them to spend their mornings together. They had breakfast before she got dressed and he packed himself lunch. Today she was running a little behind as she was carefully trying to pack up Tanner’s necklace while Blake was already waiting at the door for her.

“I wanted to take this back to your father before I head over to Christa.”

He smiled and leaned down to kiss her. “Good, I already forgot about them.”

As she watched his body blur, she tensed up, knowing from now on she would feel pain each time he shifted. It felt like a stab, but it wasn’t anywhere local, rather all over her body at once. It only took a split second, but it took away from the excitement she felt when he shifted.

‘I am sorry.’He leaned down and nudged her in apology.

“It’s okay. I just have to get used to it.”

‘It got easier for me, hopefully it’ll do the same for you.’

She ran her fingers through his silky fur and kissed him on the nose. “I think it will. Be safe and don’t work too much.”

‘I love you.’

“I love you too.”

She watched as he ran off into the woods with his little lunch bag dangling from his muzzle. She turned and started walking to the village and almost walked into Tristan on their little path.

He was carrying a large toolbox and seemed happy. “Good morning Niev.”

“Hello Tristan. On your way to your new home?”

He nodded. “I borrowed these and have found a few more helping hands for later,” he exclaimed, proud and excited. “How are you? All rested after your ceremony?”

“Yes. Would you like to have dinner with us tonight? Olivia is more than welcome to join me this afternoon.”

“Yes please. I’ll pick Olivia up after I get back.” He passed her and waved goodbye.

Then an idea popped into her head, and she quickly shouted after him. “Tristan, may I use the truck this afternoon? I wanted to go to the cabin and get a few things we left behind.”

“Yes. The keys are in the glove box and it’s still parked where Blake and you left it last time.”

“Thank you.”
