‘You too, beautiful. Stay where you are until we come get you. Don’t get involved. I don’t want you three hurt by either side.’

He could feel her anxiety and her guilty conscience. She didn’t like the idea that people could get hurt because of her. Some had already died to protect her. He felt her love pouring into his heart strengthening his muscles as it filled him.

‘I love you, Niev. I’ll have to close my mind to you so I can keep in contact with the others.’

‘I love you too.’

He closed his mind and opened it to the others. They’d all been waiting anxiously for his mind to return to them. He could feel their worry for her and their determination to get her back safely.

Tristan was the one brave enough to ask, ‘Is she okay?’

‘Yes, still anxious, but unharmed and brave as always.’

Blake could feel everyone’s relief and Seth motioned for them to move out. They moved as a group, yet slightly scattered. Their paws moved quickly, yet swiftly without a lot of noise. The closer they got, the stronger he could feel Niev. She was calm, but still impatient and anxious. He pictured her in the room she’d shared with him, sitting on the bed ready to fight.

Seth slowed down and stopped, everyone else following his lead. ‘It’s right ahead. Spread out so we have them surrounded.’

Tristan and Brandon, who were paired together, stayed where they were while everyone else circled around, spreading themselves equally around the target. As the leading team, Seth and Blake circled until they found the road that would lead them to the gates. With Niev’s description, they hoped that the walls wouldn’t be too high and that they were able to easily climb over them. If not, they would have to break down the gates.

Seth confirmed that everyone was ready before he began to move up the road toward the gates. As soon as they were in sight, Seth and Blake started sprinting full force toward them.

Blake quickly opened his mind to Niev to say, ‘We’re here’, before closing it again to be able to communicate with everyone else.

Blake and Seth stayed close, matching each other’s speed. They both pushed off the ground at the same time, their paws grabbing the top of the gate and pulling themselves up.

As they’d expected, there was a wolf waiting for them on the other side. Blake pushed himself off the gate and launched himself on top of the wolf, digging his canines into his neck. Seth had done the same and had his jaw around the wolf’s lower back, crushing his spine. Blake mirrored his brother’s actions and started to feel the bones between his teeth break as he clenched down into the flesh. The wolf howled and clawed at Blake, ripping his shoulder open. In return, Blake dug his claws into the wolf’s throat and slit it, leaving a stench of blood in its wake.

The wolf’s muscles slowly relaxed as the blood poured out of him, and Blake’s jaw had broken his neck. He dropped the body and looked up, taking in his surroundings and checking on his warriors. Tristan and Brandon fought a wolf to his left and he could hear the others to the side or behind the house fighting two others.

‘Let’s find that Lycan.’Seth’s adrenaline seemed at its peak.

Blake agreed and rushed by Seth’s side into the mansion. They had to squeeze through the door one at a time. As the one in command, Seth naturally went first. Seth headed straight to the back door where they knew Niev was being held. Halfway through the hall, a tall man stepped out of a door to their right, opposite Niev’s room. The beast-like man dragged a frightened looking man behind him, his hands around his collar.

Blake watched as the beast quickly unlocked the man’s restraint and threw him toward them. As the man tumbled forward his body blurred, a wolf appearing midair and launching himself at Seth. Thanks to Seth’s alpha reflexes, he rolled to the side and the wolf crashed to the floor next to him. Blake used that as his cue and jumped forward, his claws digging into the wolf’s back. He tried to pin him down and stop him from moving but wasn’t quite fast enough. The wolf rolled onto his back and sliced his claws over Blake’s side, ripping his flesh down to the bones of his rib cage. Seth was by his side in a heartbeat and ripped the wolf's throat out, growling in revenge.

Blake’s left legs slightly caved in as the pain of his injury shot through his body. Shaking off the pain, he looked around.

‘Where did he go?’

‘Niev’s room.’Then Seth reached out to everyone. ‘Report.’

Brandon replied instantly.‘All enemies are under control.’

‘We are heading for the Lycan in Niev’s room.’

Seth went first and burst through the door, Blake following closely behind him. Niev’s vanilla scent wrapped around him immediately as his eyes scanned the room for her small figure. Panic spread within him as he swept the room and didn’t see her. He only saw the large beast standing in the far right corner of the room.

Suddenly, glass shattered next to them and Tristan came flying through the window landing beside Seth. He seemed to have seen better days. His shoulder was badly beaten up and his face was covered in his own blood that poured out from a wound near his ear. Despite it all, he stood tall next to Seth, ready to fight.

The Lycan laughed. “What are you going to do? Kill me?” He laughed again, his chest rumbling as his laughter turned to mania.

They leaped forward at the same time, ready to dig their canines into his bones and their claws into his skin.

“Enough! Kneel before your true alpha!” the Lycan commanded.

Mid launch, Blake’s muscles fell limp. He had lost all control over his body. An invisible force now controlled him, overpowering his own will and playing his muscles like a marionette. His knees bent without his permission, and he slowly bowed before the Lycan. Blake was powerless.

The evil laugh of the Lycan filled the air around him. “You wolves are nothing compared to me. I will crush your bodies like ants.”
