I step in farther, trying to take it all in. Everything is black, from the walls to the floors to the furniture, but instead of seeming dreary, it’s luxurious. Opulent. There are brass accents and perfectly placed lighting, giving the whole place a sexy ambience.

As I walk through, overstimulated by beauty, I stop in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the back of the loft rather than the front. The property overlooks the natural woods that fortunately have never been developed. I can still see the stream and the lake farther out where I used to play as a child. The untouched natural beauty is such a contrast to the sleek, modern space where I stand.

“It’s brilliant, Michel.” I twist around to face him, finding him closer than I expected. “It’s the best of both worlds.”

“You see my vision.”

“Yeah, I see it.”

Michel steps up beside me, his gaze trained outside. “Not everyone does, but they will in time. I’m not going away. Neubrook will be the most sought-out location on the entire East Coast. No other city will compare to it. There will be something for everyone. Suburban houses, modern lofts, city living with nature close by. All the amenities with none of the troubles that come with them.”

“I can’t wait to see what you do.”

He smiles, holding my gaze. “Come see your room.”

“Sure.”

Once he turns away from me, I scrub a hand over my face. Michel is intense. He’s also hot as fuck and it’s got me feeling things. Living with him is going to be interesting.

He pauses in the hall, waiting for me to catch up. When I do, he steps into the room.

“It’s identical to the one next door. There is an adjoining bathroom, but since you’re the only person here, it’s all yours.”

The room is massive, with the bed against an exposed brick wall and shades of charcoal gray everywhere else. It’s fully furnished, with more modern furniture, and it faces the open woods. The bed is amazing, sitting up on a platform and piled with luxurious linens and pillows. Above it is a huge painting of a naked man stroking himself, his face a mask of pleasure.

“Oh.” Michel chuckles softly. “I forgot about the artwork until now. I can remove it if it’s distasteful to you.”

“Um, no, it’s not. It’s cool.”

Michel nods, gazing at me with that intense expression. “If you remember, I’m a gay man, Eli, but I’m far more comfortable with myself now and very open about it. I hope that won’t make living with me an issue for you.”

“No.” I smile, exhaling slowly. “Good segue though. I wanted to figure out how to tell you.”

“Tell me what?”

“I’m bisexual.”

Michel’s face seems to glitch as he blinks rapidly and his mouth falls open. “I’m sorry?”

“I’m bi, Michel. I date men too. Well, theoretically speaking. I don’t date at all, really, but I realized that I’m attracted to men.”

“Fuck,” he whispers, turning away from me and rubbing his forehead.

His reaction confuses me based on what he just told me. I touch his shoulder. “Michel?”

When he faces me, he’s composed once more. He chuckles. “Sorry. I just really didn’t expect you to say that. Ever. It was a shock. You were so… into girls in high school.”

“Right. Yeah. Let’s just say I had inkling back then, but I wasn’t ready to deal with it.”

“I’m sure it didn’t help hearing your peers taunt me for my perceived sexuality.”

“It pissed me off, Michel, and I wish so much that I was braver back then. I wish I’d told them to fuck off with their bullshit.”

“You did more than enough. You punched Ben right in the face once on my behalf.”

I laugh. “Oh shit. I did. He called you a… I can’t say the word.”

“It’s okay. That part didn’t even hurt. What did was that I had no experience. Can’t call a guy a cocksucker who never sucked a cock.”
