“Fine. Here.”

“No.”

“What am I supposed to do with this?” she asked.

“You wear it. That’s what necklaces are for.”

“I’m not into jewelry.”

“Humor me.”

The way it was delivered made it feel like he was very close to snapping. She narrowed her gaze, daring him to direct that wrath on her. Then she grabbed the necklace and jerked it around her. The clasp closed with a click as the gemstone hung low on her throat. She braced for more harsh words.

“There. Happy?”

Klaus looked at the necklace, then at her. The rigid set of his shoulders relaxed a bit even while he shook his head.

“No. I’m still angry. But it looks nice on you.”

When she didn’t respond, his fingers reached out and traced over the necklace. Then his thumb rubbed the gemstone and her skin until her pulse was galloping in her throat.

“You’re a strange, crazy, rude man,” she declared.

“And you’re a strange, temperamental, stubborn woman,” he shot back.

They came together like an explosion, mouths fused before they could even think about it and steering each other away from the open window. There was no other way to describe what he was doing except a fierce, thorough devouring, one that she gloried in as she sucked on his neck with a fervor that was beyond insane. Sapphire knew once should have been enough to satisfy her curiosity, even her needs, but the intense attraction for this man just grew as time went by. Their necking rose in varying degrees until they were full-on making out minus a kiss, unable to get enough of each other’s taste. Overwhelmed, she broke it first, breathing hard and grasping for a shirt before she remembered he wasn’t wearing any.

He hissed at the sensation of her nails grazing his chest, then buried his face in her neck to steady himself. She rested her head against the wall, eyes clearing enough to tell that they were back in the staircase area. When his palm rested on her stomach, she held back a breath.

“Are you pregnant?” he asked, tone taking on a gentle approach. A vision of his gentleness popping up again and again when he took her the first time—again and again—rose in her mind, and it felt like a physical caress straight down her core.

She quivered against him, then shook her head. “No. Are you still mad?”

“Yes.”

But that anger had a direction now, demanding to be sated—telling her without words that she was the only one who could do it. Nerves settled over her when his gaze turned hooded, his lips brushing hers in a gentle back-and-forth motion. The ache intensified to a crazed degree, one she felt with every fiber of her being.

“I’m also mad,” she declared, even when she no longer was.

Just like that, an unholy gleam entered his features as he lifted her off her feet. “Then let’s not waste time.”

Gentleness was flung out the window, just as she had intended with her words. It made it easier to focus on the pleasure as his hands moved over her, roughly possessive and pressing down on the areas he already knew would make her moan the most. Aware they were still in public, she bit down the noises until his mouth was back on hers, deliberately teasing.

“No one’s here,” he rasped. “That staircase leads to my tower domain, and no one goes there.”

“Oh.”

He thumbed her nipple, then rolled it between two fingers. He whispered in her ear, husky, and turned on when she puckered for him. “You can’t scream, but you can make other sounds. Don’t hold back.”

How could she fight such immense, raw magnetism? She couldn’t even if she tried, and Sapphire decided there was no point when he was as overwhelmed by it. It was attraction, nothing more, and she was beginning to understand that fighting it would only lead to longing—and longing was never good with an arranged union like this one.

Enjoying it was the only route to take, so she took it, biting on his lower lip before she sucked a groan out of him. He retaliated, lips and tongue teasing her nipple, fingers cruising down to play with her already-wet core. He surged back up when she took his erection in her hand, unable to wrap fully around its thick girth but able to stroke until his hips were bucking wildly against her. The next few seconds of impatience stilled when he lifted her with one forceful heave.

“Hold on to me.”

His words were punctuated with a plunge, one that reverberated in her senses. She felt so full, and at the same time knew she needed more. No longer wanting to deny it, Sapphire elevated herself further using his shoulders and ground herself against him until his eyes were a stark, molten black. She was rewarded with Klaus flattening her against the wall—hips, torso, limbs—a deliberate positioning before he was moving without hesitation.

He drove into her hard, bypassing the stage where they had to get each other aroused first. He pounded with a force that threatened to drown her, and Sapphire could only wrap her legs around his waist and take every given thrust. When her chest shook, his mouth was there again, sucking with another force that had her slamming her head against the wall. Then he was there, easing her head against his neck and arching it toward her.
