A tingle ran down his spine, his only warning before he turned and transformed—and was stopped midway through it as rigid energy pressed against him from all sides and locked in all his muscles.

“Don’t move.”

Not that he could. The familiar voice had him moving his eyes, though, until he spotted the figure standing in a corner, hands held out and evidently controlling the magic imprisoning him. Klaus growled low in his throat.

Silver looked back, silver eyes calm. He was put together in a fancy cloak and sturdy, shifter-weaved warrior outfit. But beyond the calm was a wave of anger directed at him, snapping every time Klaus attempted to move.

“I said don’t move.”

“And you don’t have a right to say anything, considering you’re trespassing on my property.”

His voice held a threat, one that Silver caught. The man narrowed his gaze and tightened his energy.

“Yes, I do. It’syouwho has no right and no say in the matter.”

“Let me go.”

“You think you have control over everyone, and that I wouldn’t come for you.”

“Let. Me. Go.”

“You think—”

“Let me go or I will—”

“Oh! Oh, no. I knew it was the wrong move and shouldn’t have left you alone—Silver! Stop choking him!”

Ruby came running toward them, panic in her brown eyes and reddish-brown hair moving wildly in the wind. A blur followed and grabbed her hand before she could put herself between them, Maddox shooting her a warning look, but Pearl wasn’t about to be held back as the short woman marched forward, repeatedly trying to pull Silver’s hands away. She hissed.

“Did you just burn my elbow, you stubborn fool?”

“That fool’s your brother, Pearl, and you know how he gets when he’s in a mood,” Emerald announced, slipping into the area with more grace than her sisters. Green eyes flicked toward him. “Hello, Klaus.”

He didn’t greet her back, unsure if her return to the island was as an ally or an enemy, and angry that they had managed to bypass his security so easily. Before he could decide between insults and calmer words, a sixth figure went straight toward Silver and immediately placed her hands on his shoulders. Blue eyes clearer and lighter than his waited patiently until Silver met her gaze. Rosa Howler—Klaus’s ex-fiancé—spoke in a low, soothing tone.

“Silver, we agreed not to do this. You promised not to stoop low and get into trouble.”

“I made no such promises,” Silver replied tightly, voice brimming with still-unreleased magic. It tensed Klaus’s shoulders further.

“Silver—”

“He crossed the line too many times. First kidnapping you, then taking my sister.”

Ruby placed her hands over her face, indicating she might have been the bearer of that news. When Pearl and Emerald glowed, a sheen coated Silver and prevented them from touching him.

“Silver,” Pearl called out. “For the love of—”

“Don’t get involved,” Silver snapped.

“There’s only one of you and you can’t hold me forever,” Klaus said, trying to maintain his calm despite his tension. He wasn’t defenseless, per se, not when the other Suttons refused to get involved in the mix of magic and Silver was significantly crippled from effectively handling a dragon shifter without them. He wracked his brain, poking the edges of the magic and feeling it tighten further in response. His beast could easily break it if he used all his might, but it could also crush them all in the process.

Saph wouldn’t like that.

“Yes, I can,” Silver snapped.

Klaus maintained eye contact. “You have until the count of five to let go of me.”

“You have until the count of three to tell me where my sister is.”
