He smiles and I instantly notice his dimples. Yep, I can see why my sister fell for this man. I intend to destroy him the same way he destroyed her.

“Hey, can I get an order of your garlic parm wings and a club sandwich?” Robbie asks Phoebe, and she gives him a nod.

“Not traditional?”

“Trust me on this. You’ll love them.”

“You’re pretty confident, maybe even cocky.”

“I’ve always been told that’s part of my charm.”

“I’m sure you have.”

“You haven’t told me your name.”

Funny how there are still strangers in small towns. I suppose that’s because Candy gave me the opportunity to go to college while she stayed here. I only returned about a year ago. Shortly after, I decided to open my own business. Now, I spend the majority of my time trying to get it running while picking up the pieces of my sister’s broken heart.

“Carly.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Carly. You’re going to be glad I rescued you.”

And you’re going to wish you never met me.

ROBBIE

Carly is the perfect woman. She loves to eat, which is not always the case with the women I’ve dated. She loves beer. Again, not always the case with the women I’ve dated. And she can play darts…better than me. We’re on our third game and my ego is a bit wounded at the fact that she’s already beaten me twice.

“Don’t choke,” I whisper against her ear, trying my best to distract her.

She looks over at me, her mouth only a breath away. “Never.”

Without looking, she shoots the dart. I’m anxious to know where it went but refuse to look away. I’m dying to taste her. Dying to feel her curvy body against mine. Dying to know if she’s as perfect as I think she is.

“I win,” she says, turning away as I go in for a kiss.

“You know, it’s a good thing I’m secure in my masculinity. Otherwise, you kicking my ass would totally take a toll on me.”

“If we were playing pool, the tables would be reversed.”

I grin. “I knew I should’ve gone with pool. I’ll remember that for next time.”

“Next time?”

I take her hand and pull her to me, wrapping my arms around her waist. She places her hands on my chest, gazing up at me.

“Don’t act like there won’t be a next time, Carly.”

I get closer, going in for a kiss again.

“I never make promises I can’t keep.”

Again, she turns away, slipping out of my arms. I’ll give it to her. She’s damn good at playing hard to get. Everything about her behavior says she’s having a great time. Why pretend like she isn’t interested when I know she is?

“I’ll make it easy for you. Meet me here tomorrow night at seven.”

I realize I’m holding my breath, waiting on her to answer. I want her to say yes. I haven’t dated a decent woman in a long time. I’ve been focused on work and family. My parents’ separation has been a nasty one. I suppose that happens when infidelity is involved. I need this. I need a distraction.

“I guess I wouldn’t mind eating garlic parm wings two nights in a row.”
