“It’s just that when you didn’t kiss me, you made me feel like this is all in my head.”

He leans down and presses a kiss to my forehead. “It’s not.”

“Good, because that would break my heart.”

“That’s the last thing I want to do.” He sits down on the bed beside me. I don’t bother getting dressed yet. “I need to ask you some stuff about your mom and stepdad.”

“Why?” I have no good memories of them. Talking about them won’t change that.

“Baby, you know I wouldn’t ask you to talk about them if it weren’t important.”

I slowly nod. “I understand.”

“Do you know if there were other girls at the house?”

The time I spent in that hell house is time I’ve tried to block out. I don’t want to remember.

“You mean, girls they were using like me?” My damn voice trembles, and I hate it. I want to be strong. Want to overcome all the shit. I convinced myself I had.

“Yeah. Did you ever see anyone else?”

I wasn’t privy to the goings on in the house. I was stuck in my room, waiting for the next guy to come in.

“I don’t remember other girls like me being there. I stayed in my room most of the time. There were always people there, though, so I don’t know. There could’ve been. I just never saw anything. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay. I hate asking you about it.”

“What’s crazy is that they didn’t treat my stepsisters the same way. They didn’t make them do the things…the things they made me do. I always thought it was because they were older than me, and the men liked them young.”

My stepsisters were as evil as they were. Sounds cliche, I know, but it’s true. I was the outcast while they stood back and watched what was happening to me.

Two stepsisters. Twins, in fact. There were two bikers on the black bikes and they were clearly women based on their size and the way they rode. Could be them. They were so damn in sync with each other. They were a team. Or as Mason says, there may not be a connection. It just makes too much sense for it not to be. So, I tell him.

“Come to my office.”

When we get there, he opens his laptop, typing a few things. He turns it around and on the screen are two brunette women, petite build, wearing all black leather. Twins.

“What is this from?”

“Owen’s surveillance at his clubhouse. He’s been slipping me feeds but nothing concrete until today. Taylor’s mom is there as well.”

“It has to be connected, Mason.”

He agrees. “But we need to go about this the right way. We spook them and they ghost us again. We’ll take our trip to Huntsville this weekend, and when we get back, we’ll start orchestrating a plan.”

I don’t tell him I disagree with the trip again. We need it if we’re about to be in a war with our biggest enemy yet.

“I want to bring Taylor in and see what she can tell us.”

Nodding, I reply, “Yeah, she may not be much help. She kind of keeps all of that shit inside.”

“You two getting pretty close?” he asks.

I shrug. “I guess.”
