“She’s good for you. I can see how much she helped you after Carson and Lina died. Don’t let that girl get away.”

Mason never gives relationship advice. He doesn’t even date. He fucks a rotation of club whores, just like I used to do. That was before Taylor. Before I realized all the things I used to do were just stupid. Insignificant.

Until I met her.

She’s given me a reason to be a better man. And if her family is a threat to her, I’ll kill them all.

Getting called into Mason’s office is nerve-wracking. I imagine it’s the equivalent of going to the principal’s office when you know you’re in trouble. Your palms are sweaty, heart pounds. You try to prepare yourself, but it does no good.

“Yes, sir?”

Christian is here, which makes me feel a little better. This has to be about my mother. She didn’t just show up back in town for nothing. She’s either working with someone else or running her own operation. She was the brains behind it anyway. Her idiot husband didn’t have the brains to do it.

“Munsey said you mentioned having two stepsisters. Twins. We have surveillance of two women, and I want you to tell me if it’s your stepsisters.”

“Okay.” I swallow hard, then look at the video. “Yes. That’s Raven and Rowan.”

“Do you have any idea why they’d be at the Fallen Eagles’ clubhouse?” I shake my head. “If you reached out to them, would they talk with you?”

“No!” Christian immediately interjects. “We aren’t dragging Taylor into the middle of this.”

The concern is clear in his tone. He doesn’t want me getting hurt. Or worse. My mom and stepsisters are highly capable of ending my life without any remorse. Then again, they wouldn’t make any money off of me if I were dead.

“I’m already in the middle of it but I would need to know why. Why would you want me to reach out to them?”

“They might be the ones responsible for Carson and Lina’s death. If that’s the case, I want to kill them both.”

He’ll have to get in line.

“I can try. We didn’t have a typical sibling relationship. I imagine they would be suspicious of me if I suddenly tried contacting them.”

Mason nods. “We’ll talk when we get back home.”

Good. That’ll give me time to decide if I have the guts to do whatever is asked of me.

Istrap my bag onto the back of my bike and climb on, waiting for Taylor to join me. Bishop and Sloan are driving the SUV, so the ladies loaded it down with their things. It’s crazy how many outfits a woman needs for a 2-day trip.

Taylor walks out, small bag in hand. No suitcases like the others. She’s killing me in a short sundress. I have to adjust myself when I get up to strap her bag on. It didn’t take much for me to convince her to go. I’m the one who needs convincing, but I’m following orders from Mason.

When we get to Huntsville, we’re going to meet with Savage and his guys, find out if we’re fighting the same enemy. I’ve already expressed my opinions to Mason. I think this is personal to our club.

“This all you need?” I ask.

“Yep.”

We get on, her tucking her dress beneath her butt. We’re ready to ride as soon as Mason gives the green light. Once this weekend is over, we’re going to hunt down Taylor’s family. I pray they’ll lead us to The Harvester. If the Huntsville chapter has some valuable intel, it’ll make this trip all worth it.

Huntsville is only about an hour and a half away. Sometimes we take backroads, enjoying the scenery. I doubt that will be the case today. At least we aren’t too far if the prospects run into trouble. Besides, Jake is with them. We wouldn’t leave our club strictly in the hands of prospects.

“Hold on, baby girl,” I say to Taylor, and she wraps her arms tightly around me.
