I shake my head. “But I will be.”

The stench coming from the basement is damn near unbearable. Sidney thinks it’s hilarious when she pisses and shits herself. Laughs at how we’ll be cleaning up her mess. None of our tactics have worked. She won’t give up the identity of The Harvester, won’t tell us where their other holding place is, nothing.

I’m ready to kill her and be done with it. I pick up the hose and spray her down, but the stench lingers. She opens her mouth, desperate for the water so I walk over to her. I tilt her head back and spray the water down on her. I admit, I get some sadistic satisfaction when she coughs and sputters. I turn the water off and put the hose away.

“You’re running out of time, Sidney. Mason won’t keep you alive much longer if you don’t give us something.”

We’ve all tried telling him we need to put an end to this. I don’t like her being here, not this close to Taylor. Now that she knows we’re keeping her here, it’ll only be a matter of time before she wants to come see her.

“Oh, I know all about Mason. The question is, do you?”

Mason has been keeping something from the club ever since Taylor came home. He’s been distant and on edge. He acted the same way when he was lying to the club about Owen.

It took me some time to forgive him for that. We wouldn’t have allied ourselves with the Fallen Eagles MC had we known they were working for The Harvester. Mason’s decision put us in a tough position, and it cost us highly. But he’s only ever had the club’s best interest at heart.

“You have no idea the type of man your president is or what he’s capable of.”

“And you have no idea what I’m capable of.”

I could snap her neck right now and feel no remorse. It would be a nicer death than she deserves.

“Ask him. Ask Mason why he came here.”

She’s dead fucking serious. It makes me wonder what the answer is and if he’ll tell me the truth. I walk out, turning off the lights and leaving her in total darkness.

Knowing my mother is only yards away keeps me on edge, but I can’t think about her. Today is an important day for me. I have a job interview at a daycare center. They’re the only company I applied for that’s actually called me.

Davina took me shopping, and I picked out a nice pair of khaki pants, a pretty floral shirt, and ballet flats. I don’t know how I’m supposed to dress for a daycare.

“How do I look?” I ask Christian, who’s lying on my bed.

He hops up, his semi-hard dick swinging as he walks over to me. Standing behind me, he drops a kiss on my shoulder.

“You look like a kindergarten teacher, and it’s actually very hot. What time is your interview again?”

I swat his hands away and giggle when he chases me around the room.

“When I get back, I will give you a special one-on-one lesson.”

He wraps me in his arms and kisses me tenderly. “I’m looking forward to it. Good luck today. I love you.”

“Thanks. I love you, too.”

“Let me get dressed, and I’ll drive you.”

I take a quick bathroom break to double-check my makeup and clothes, then join him outside. We’re taking the SUV, and as we drive off, I can’t help but glance back at the garage.

She’s there. She’s been there for days and days. How long are they going to keep her? It would be easier for me if she were dead.
