It’s not long before we have the kitchen to ourselves and I turn in my seat and ask, “You know, my brother never invites people back to his home. Why do you reckon he invited you tonight?”

He doesn’t hesitate to answer. “You.”

All I wanted for Louis was to find someone to love him unconditionally and now I guess he’s trying to pay it back. But for the life of me, I can’t work out why he seems to be so pro-Manik.

“I’d ask you to stay the night but I’m staying in my niece’s room, and it wouldn’t be appropriate to do all the things you like me to do to you in there.” I smirk.

“Then I’ll just have to take you back to the club.”

“I don’t know if I have the energy to keep up with you,” I tease.

“Babe, you could lie on your back and I’d do all the work as long as I’m inside you.”

I laugh. Like really laughing like I, Lexi Mitchell, have no cares in the world.

“I can’t work out if you’re good or bad for me,” I murmur in a classic move of my mouth working before my brain kicks in to stop me from speaking.

He traces his finger across my cheek and then runs his fingers through the hair framing my face.

“Funny, I’ve been thinking the same about you.”

Narrowing my eyes, I’m suspicious. “Really?”

“The first night we met, you fucked me till you got off and then you left me hanging, but besides that, I’ve not met a woman like you before.”

I’m a sucker for hearing all the things someone wants to hear but like the little voice in the back of my mind reminds me, how long will he think that before I’m just like all other women he’s known previously.

I need to get out of my own head. “Let’s get out of here before you go any softer on me.”

“Trust me, babe. There’s nothing soft about me tonight.”

It’s early when I wake. Leaning over Manik still sleeping, I check the time and immediately think of prison. No wonder I’m awake, it’s lights on back in Eastford Prison. Ten years of being woken at the same time has long-lasting effects it seems, unless I get drunk the previous night.

Manik snores and covers his leg over mine. What is it about this guy, a guy who’s ten years younger than me, that keeps drawing me to his bed and making me feel like I’ve known him for years?

Slipping out from under his leg, I round up my clothes and start to dress. I’ve got a lot to do today and if I’m still here when he wakes, I will succumb to him and end up staying in his bed.

“Where you going?” he croaks out, making me jump.

Turning around, he’s awake and rubbing his eyes.

“I’ve got things to do.”

“You haven’t done me yet,” he points out, adding, “I wouldn’t mind you crossing me off your to-do list first.”

Laughing, I grab one of his socks from the floor and throw it at him. He deftly dodges it and gets up.

“I suppose that’s all you think about being so young,” I retort.

I expect him to laugh so when he frowns, my gut tightens anticipating doing something wrong.

“Is the age thing really a problem for you?”

“It is ten years. You can’t deny it’s rather a large gap.”

He shrugs. “I don’t see it myself.”

“Why would you? You’re twenty-six and getting sex every night.”
