I ignore the taxi driver as he tries to make small talk and pay him a nice tip when he pulls up outside my brother’s house ten minutes later.

I’m weighed down with darkness making the short walk from the car to the front door, and curse when I don’t have my keys on me.

Raising my hand to knock, the door opens, and Louis narrows his eyes.

“Tell me what happened,” he orders coldly.

Stepping aside, I walk in and head straight up to my room. Without undressing, I fall into bed and drag the sheets over me.

Louis darkens the doorway and demands, “Talk to me.”

“It turns out Manik isn’t as single as he told me. Some bitch showed up at the club as I was leaving.”

“Did you… do you need me to clean up any situations?”

Rolling my eyes, I tell him, “I left. I didn’t do anything.”

“Do you want me to step in? Brother or not…”

“No, this is my business. Don’t get involved.”

With one nod, he steps back and closes the door. I should’ve known just having fun was too good to be true.

Chapter Eight

Manik

The taxi disappears from sight, and I’m left with an ex-girlfriend who just so happens to know how to pick the perfect fucking moment to ruin. Her once beautiful appearance is nothing but an ugly reminder that she’s a pain in my arse. Her blonde hair that I wrapped around my fist is now an eyesore of bottled bleach. Her skin I thought to be flawless is just caked in makeup. The first time I saw her without the face paint on I almost didn’t recognise her.

Spinning around to face her, I ask, “What the fuck are you doing here? Who even told you where I was?”

“Dodge took pity on me,” she meekly admits, and I groan. He more than likely told her just to get her off of his back. “And I came because I was missing you. I assumed you’d be missing me too.”

Her pink lips turn into a pout, and it grates on me to no end. I once found it endearing but after watching Lexi run, I could slice those lips clean off of her face.

“Why? Why the fuck would I be missing you, Shay? If I were going to miss you, I wouldn’t have broken up with you,” I point out.

Her shoulders lift nonchalantly, and she mutters, “It never lasts. Why would I believe otherwise this time?”

She has a point, but I thought I made it crystal clear that this time, shit was different. We’ve been on and off for the last couple of years. When shit was good between us, it was crazy good, but with crazy comes extreme fighting and one person wanting more than the other. And then when they don’t get the commitment they want, shit turns sour. The only good thing about it was the makeup sex but after meeting Lexi Mitchell, it was mediocre at best. I cleared out my things from her house the same night Dodge told me to get out of town. I can’t believe he told her where I was. The fucker’s going to hear about this, not that he’ll give a shit. I broke up with her the final time and felt nothing about it. Watching Lexi leave today, I didn’t like how it left me feeling.

The roar of motorcycles fills the air and Chaos and Mayhem ride in. This is the last thing I need.

“I haven’t changed my mind. You need to leave. Go home.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Vin. Sort yourself out, and stop being a dick,” she shrieks.

“Shut your fuckin’ mouth, Shay,” I growl, grabbing her arm and pulling her against me so she hears me clearly.

“Everything okay, Manik?” Chaos calls over.

Plastering on what is most likely a manic grin, I shout out, “I’ve got it handled.”

Keeping hold of Shay, I pull her over to her car and yank open the door. Not too roughly, I push her inside and slam the door shut.

Through her open window, I tell her, “Go home. Don’t come back. Just forget about me.”

Pain flashes in her eyes. “I can’t do that.”
