Reminiscing, there’s never really been a time I’ve cared too deeply for her. She was a backup so to speak. If I weren’t staying at the club, I always had a place to stay with her. Her pain should gut me, but it isn’t now, and it never has.

“Try,” I snapped.

Arching her brow, a sneer on her lips, she asks, “Am I meant to forget about the lad you killed too?”

What the fuck? The blood running through my veins runs ice cold. How the fuck did I not see this coming?

“All I want is you. Nothing else matters to me.”

I can’t let her leave now and she fucking knows it. Then again, she also knows me and the club, she should know not to run her mouth with veiled threats.

Thinking fast, I yank open her door and try to soften my movements helping her out.

“Did you bring any bags with you?”

“Just a small case. It’s in the boot.” Her voice is all butter and fucking sunshine now she’s getting what she wants. All because she was the prettiest girl in the pub two years ago and I took her home after she spent the night working me up and letting me know straight what was on offer if I wanted it.

Grabbing her keys from her, I retrieve her case and roll my neck to relieve the tension as she walks beside me into the club bar. Brothers stare but they can wait for an explanation.

“I’ve been given a room here, you can stay with me,” I tell her as she follows me up the stairs.

She turns her nose up at the room and I dump her case on the bed. “I’ll be back in a few.”

Before she can argue, I’m out of the room and jogging down the stairs to find Chaos.

He’s perched at the bar with Mayhem and the boredom on his face is loud and clear to see as I approach him.

“Prez, I need a word.”

He slowly rakes his eyes over at me. “Yeah, I expected it after seeing the trouble you told me wouldn’t follow you here show up.”

I hate when I give my word and it’s broken. There’s not a lot worse than a man who doesn’t keep his promises.

“What’s going on, brother?” Mayhem asks.

“The woman I was just with is my ex. Dodge told her I was here. I tried getting rid of her but she’s throwing the dead lad in my face. She implied that if I don’t let her stay, she won’t be so quiet about the reason I’m here.”

Chaos lets out a long whistle and Mayhem sighs.

“Why is it always a woman?” Chaos mumbles. “Shit. Did Lexi see her?”

Cringing, I say, “Yeah.”

He gets on his phone and my jaw tenses when I hear him say, “Psy. Some shit’s just gone down here at the club. Manik’s ex showed up, and Lexi saw and left. You should make sure she’s okay.”

He goes quiet while he listens and then hangs up.

“Psy’s gonna make sure she’s good,” he tells me.

“You shouldn’t have done that, I’m gonna straighten it all out with her. There’s not even anything for her to know.”

“He already knew. You haven’t known her for long but she’s family to us and we know her better than you. None of us want to see history repeating itself.”

“I don’t want that either but bringing in Psycho… he’s a psycho,” I remind him.

“There are very few people he cares about, his sister is the most important along with his old lady. Trust me, me calling him and giving him a heads-up saves you from him showing up at your door. He’s not the guy who asks questions then acts.”

“If it weren’t for Shay, I would’ve been riding over to her house. In fact… can you make sure she doesn’t…”
