He nudges the gun against her, and she stumbles back, her scream piercing my soul as she falls out of sight. Even making my way to the edge, I can’t see her through the darkness out here. Her scream sharply stops, and Psycho stands beside me.

He dumps her purse by his feet. “She’s just another sad soul who chose to end her life because the guy she loved didn’t want her.”

“I thought you said I was to prove myself by doing this?”

“You have proved yourself. You didn’t try to stop me. You didn’t even flinch. Not once. Come on.”

As we continue walking side by side, I notice a slight shift in my body language. My shoulders seem more relaxed, no longer burdened by the invisible weight that has been lifted. My steps are lighter, more confident. The tension in my face seems to have melted away, replaced by a calm and serene expression.

“I parked up on the side of the road. I’ll drop you off near the club before I dump it.”

“Sure.”

It’s a couple of minutes before we reach the car. Psycho drives in silence as the cliffs disappear in the rearview.

“Thank you.” He gazes at me, silently asking what for. “For talking to Lexi on my behalf, for tonight. I appreciate it.”

He shrugs and takes the corner back into civilisation. “All the shit that’s happened is in the past. Lex needs to be moving forward and she is doing so. If you want to have any kind of relationship with her, you need to do the same.”

“You think I’ll get the votes for the transfer?”

The fucker shrugs. “Depends.”

“On?” I urge.

“On whether you’ve run your gums to anyone else about the shit that had you skipping town.”

Rolling my eyes, I assure him, “There’s no one else, dickhead.”

“Then only time will tell.”

He’s such a prick but he’s the first one I want at my side in a fight or when I find myself in a messy situation.

With Shaya no longer a problem, it’s time I sort my priorities out. My mission is to claim Lexi and make a life with her.

I call Dodge, and he answers on the fourth ring though it’s late, and I straight out tell him, “I’m officially putting in a transfer.”

“I heard the reason is Psycho’s sister. That true?”

Is he drunk again and has he forgotten I’ve already told him why?

“Yes.”

“You sure you wanna go there? You cause even one tear to fall from her eye, he’ll kill you… or she’ll try to.”

“Yeah, he’s already given me the speech but for some reason, he’s okay with it. Prez, you know I’ve already told you this?”

Ignoring me, he says, “Okay, well, I’ll talk with Chaos in the morning, and you’ll have to wait to see if they vote in.”

Regardless of Psycho’s prediction, I’m confident the vote will go my way. I end the call already planning to call him again in the morning to remind him of this conversation.

Chapter Thirteen

Lexi

Iwas once told obsessions are unhealthy, I disagreed at first. To me, I believed that if someone was obsessed with you it meant they truly loved you or you with them. I spent most of my life dealing with my brother and his obsessions and after I was locked up, I obsessed with being untouchable. Now my obsession is my book. The words and feelings are flying onto the page. Days are slipping away. I eat when my stomach grumbles and reminds me. I sleep when my eyes betray me, and I can’t physically stay awake any longer. For the first time in my life, I know what I’m doing is the right thing to do. I push through the past hitting like a nuclear bomb and just write and write.

Working on my past is like observing it as a different person. All the hurt and hard times don’t seem to be painful anymore and the more I pour onto the pages, the more my heart lightens, and the future opens before me.
