“If you tell me to go back, I’ll go back.”

“I’m not going to tell you what to do, Felicity. You’re going to make this decision and I’ll bear any consequences that come from your decision. I promise.”

Typical Basque, always prepared to be my hero.

“You don’t have to save the world, Basque,” I wrap my arms around him.

“I know I don’t have to save the world. I only want to save you,” he says, making me smile.

“I don’t want to leave you, but Nico is out of control.”

“I know he is,” he sighs. “If you run, he won’t stop having someone chase you. If you stay, he may never change.”

No matter what I choose in the long run, it will be a double-edged sword. Nico will send someone after me, but I also know, Basque won’t let me go that easy. He’s a Leo through and through. He’s very protective over those he cares about and I’m confident in saying, I’m at the top of that list. He’ll chase me until the end of time.

Basque’s entire body stiffens and he takes a deep breath.

“There’s a third option,” he whispers.

“What’s that?” I ask, looking up at him. He seems nervous to tell me. “Basque, tell me.”

“We get married.”

Chapter Eight

Basque

I had forced the words out of my mouth, but the idea had been on my mind for weeks before Felicity’s disappearing act. I didn’t want to use marriage as a third option because I knew she’d think I was only proposing the idea to help her out. In reality, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.

“Before your mind starts telling you that I’m suggesting marriage because I want to help you,” I continue. “I wanted to ask you sooner but was waiting for the right time. And then, you ran away before I got the chance. It’s all been a mess.”

“Marriage?” she asks faintly.

“Yes.”

“I thought you didn’t believe in marriage?” She pulls away and looks me in the eyes. “Every time we asked you when you were getting married, you told us never.”

“Not quite what I said,” I chuckle. “I said, I’d marry when I found a woman who could give me a run for my money.”

“And…” she prompts.

“You definitely give me a run for my money,’ I grin. She rolls her eyes and laughs.

“So, your third option is we get married?”

The thought of marriage sounds even more surreal rolling off her tongue. Felicity was always family to me and then one day, she was more than family to me. Now, she’s all I want and desire. Her happiness means more than my own. She’s everything I want in life.

“Earth to Basque.” She waves her hand in front of my face.

“Yeah?”

“You’re off in la la land,” she teases. “Backing out on your third option?”

“Not a chance,” I shake my head. She seems shocked. “This isn’t my official proposal and I still need your brother’s approval. I know we haven’t gone official with our relationship so I needed to know where you stood with my idea.”

“Most guys propose and don’t ruin the surprise of a potential proposal,” she sighs.

“I don’t like rejection. You know that,” I shrug.
