“I know. I know,” she frowns. “Just be nice to have been proposed to romantically instead of asked like a business proposal.”

And just what I was afraid of happened. I had good intentions by asking her thoughts first; however, it did come across like a business deal instead of sweet and thoughtful. If I pull the ring from my pocket now, she’ll probably tell menojust out of spite.

“Not my intentions, Felicity. I just wanted to know if that was an option for you,” I assure her.

“And, what about Nico? Just going to call him up and say, ‘Hey, can I marry your sister?’”

“No,” I shake my head. “I’m not going to call him. I’m going to ask him face to face.”

“Are you fucking crazy?” she gasps. “He will kill you on the spot.”

The waiter and waitress, who have been eavesdropping in the corner, eyes grow big and they quickly turn away. Not sure which part freaked them out– Felicity cursing or her talking about Nico killing me.

“He might torture me but he won’t kill me,” I smirk.

“This isn’t funny. Not even in the slightest, Basque,” she growls. “You know what a monster he can be.”

“Felicity. Baby, relax,” I sigh. “Let me deal with Nico. You just worry about relaxing.”

“How can I relax when you plan to go up against my brother?”

“I’m not going up against him. I’m simply asking him for permission to marry you.”

She rolls her eyes and scoffs. She mutters a few things under her breath but I can’t make out a single word.

“Let’s just eat our food. We’ll figure out everything else later. Okay?” I smile.

“Fine,” she grumbles. I kiss her forehead and then move back to my side of the table.

“It will all work out, Beautiful. I promise.”

A day later.

“I see you’ve come back empty-handed,” Nico announces as I enter the room. The table is filled with the higher-ranking guys. Mia is sitting across from my empty seat, which has been left unfilled out of respect. I make my way over to my chair.

“I found her, Boss,” I say, sitting in my seat. “Of course.”

“And… where is she now?” he groans.

“I’d prefer to discuss that in private, Boss.”

“In private?” His eyebrow raises. “I believe we’re all friends here,” he smirks.

“Then maybe we should go down to the basement then,” I chuckle.

“The basement? What the hell for? What’d you do?”

I take a deep breath. This isn’t going to be easy. There are so many ways this can play out. Most of them were with me in a body bag.

I stand up and take off my jacket. I drape it over the back of my chair and then look at Nico, who looks unamused.

“Are we going to fight?” he asks deeply.

“Perhaps, but I’m hoping we don’t,” I say honestly.

“Are you about to do what I think you’re about to do?” Mia gushes. I look across the table at her and smile. “Oh, my God! I’ve been waiting for this day.”
