Nico turns to me. If looks could kill, I’d be dead in a second. There’s so much anger coursing his veins. Everything is pissing him off.

“Boss, I’m not trying to piss–” I state, but he holds up a hand.

“Everyone leave but Basque,” Nico says through clenched teeth.

“Yes, Boss,” the guys reply and then hurry to leave the room. The door closes behind them. I look at Nico and he gestures to my chair. I sit down and wait for the next episode ofMy boss has lost his mind.

“Mia, sit down and relax,” Nico whispers. She looks like she wants to argue but doesn’t. She just sits down in his chair. He rolls his eyes and then sits down across from me.

“Felicity is with Rosaline so call off the guys,” Mia sighs.

“No. She crossed a line,” Nico shakes his head.

“She’s family, Nico Santoro,” Mia rubs her stomach. “If you hadn’t backed her into a corner, she never would have left.”

“Mia,” he groans. “We will figure it all out once the guys bring her home.”

“No,” she mutters. “Send Basque to get her.”

“Basque? Why?”

Now is not the time to bring this up, Mia,I complain. If she wanted to rat me out, she should have picked a day when Nico isn’t a complete psychopath. If she tells him now, he’s going to take me down to the basement and torture me.

“Because Felicity trusts him and so do I,” Mia smiles. “He’s the best man for the job.”

“I need him here,” Nico grumbles, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms in front of him.

“No. He needs to go talk to Felicity and see if he can convince her to come home.”

“Forget it. I’ll go get her myself. She’s heading to Portland with damn Rosaline,” Nico says, glaring across the table at me.

This day is never-ending and there’s no way for me to escape it. Felicity is on the run. Mia and Rosaline are stirring the pot. And, Nico… well, he needs to be locked up so we can all catch a break.

“Nico, if you keep this up, we’re going to get a divorce!” Mia bursts into tears.

Nico’s tough exterior shatters and he quickly rushes to Mia’s side. He pulls her out of the chair and into his arms.

“Baby, don’t talk like that,” he whispers. “I’m sorry. I’m just on edge.”

“You’re being a huge asshole,” she sobs.

“Please, don’t cry, baby. I’ll fix it. Just stop crying. Please,” he whispers, rubbing her back. He looks over at me. “Go chase down Felicity.”

And, just like that, Mia went from pot stirrer to my damn hero.

“You got it, Boss,” I reply, standing up. “I’ll call when I land in Portland.”

Chapter Five

Felicity

Rosaline’s plan was genius and scary. Rosaline, the other woman, and her security team got out at the airport, while I hid in the back. The other woman was wearing a ball cap pulled down almost covering her eyes and a baggy hoodie. Anyone watching would think the woman was trying to hide from someone. And, anyone on my brother’s payroll would assume the woman was me.

As though Rosaline hadn’t done enough for me, before she got out, she told me the rest of her plan. The driver would drop me off at a hotel that was paid for under an alias. Then she gave me an envelope with five thousand dollars in it. I promised to pay her back once everything was settled. She smiled sweetly and replied,We’re family. Family takes care of family.

“Best cousin ever,” I smile then sit on the edge of the bed.

I stare out the window at the setting sun. It’s so peaceful. Hard to believe that something so beautiful is in my life.
