"Because the man has claimed you as his, and either I’m going to respect him and stay away or sign my death wish. If you were my girl and I were Jagger, I’d be doing the same."

"What? That makes no sense. Doesn’t matter. First of all, I’m not his girl. He has no jurisdiction over me."

"And second?"

"I’m asking you, as my friend, to have dinner with me at Hattie’s at seven tonight."

Jeremy sighed deeply into the phone. If Jagger didn’t want her to see Jeremy, he had another thing coming. He didn’t own her. She could be friends with whoever she wanted.

"You’re going to get me killed."

"I’ll see you at seven," she said triumphantly.

And she was going to look good enough to eat. As far as she was concerned, she was having dinner with her future husband. She was going to make him see how much they needed each other in order to continue living the lives they were already accustomed to.

Jenna was able to accompany her for a pamper session at the spa, which her friend called a slut-up session.

Glowing, possibly from a little bit of nerves and not from her facial, Finley chose a seriously dangerous bodycon dress to wear. The red cloth swathed her body like a glove, accentuating every curve she had. And when she walked, the slit down the middle revealed more thigh than she wanted to show.

But she felt daring.

Bold.

Beautiful.

Deep down, she knew the risqué dress was more of a diversion in her attempts to protect her heart against Jagger McCoy. He was too dangerous for her.

Chapter Thirteen

––––––––

"Fucking hell on a fuckingstick," Jeremy hissed when she sat down opposite him. They were seated at one of the better tables in the only fine-dining restaurant in Cedar Bee, Hattie’s, and Finley knew she was hopelessly overdressed compared to all the other patrons there who had only fished out their best shoes for their dinner out because that was the only dress code Hattie insisted on.

Dress Code: Nice shoes.

She offered bright smiles and friendly waves to the people who continued to gape at her, some of whom she knew from childhood.
