“You’ll have to excuse Kiara; she says exactly what is on her mind. Usually, it’s more eloquent than that.”

Griffin places the photo back on the shelf, leaving his hand to casually rest against the frame of the bookcase. As he leans closer to me, I find my body gravitating toward his.

“What they don’t know is you’re so much more than a pretty face,” I tease.

“Ahh, babe, you think I’m pretty?”

A laugh escapes me at the goofy look on Griffin’s face.

Through the window of my office, I can see all three of my employees not so stealthily watching us. For how far they are leaning to get a glimpse, their faces might as well be plastered to the glass window.

“Oh God. They’re looking right now.”

“Yeah?”

Griffin closes the inches between us. The fingers of his free hand tease into my hair, then he’s gripping the back of my neck and pulling me to him.

“We better give the people what they want,” he says before capturing my lips with his.

When he pulls back, his eyes are filled with adoration. It takes my breath away.

My stomach rumbles.

Griffin chuckles. “It sounds like you’re ready for dinner. Should we go?”

“Yeah, let me grab my stuff.” At my desk I grab my phone and purse, then the print outs for tonight’s activity.

“Are you going to tell me what we’re doing tonight?” he asks.

“Nope, you’ll have to wait and see.”

It’s the moment of truth. Everything in the last week and a half has been preparing us for this moment. The Kandi Kline interview is tomorrow, but tonight, our final relationship test…Target Date Night Challenge.

It was one of the many items on Jess’s list that we’ve been working to check off this week.

Across the island, Griffin sets his bag on the counter. My pulse races with anticipation.

“All right,” I say. “Favorite color. Go.”

He reaches into his bag.

“Pink, because, of course.” Griffin shrugs. “Fuzzy socks because your feet are always cold.”

My lips twitch with his assessment.

“Nailed it,” I tell him, then reveal my findings. “Yours is black so I got you this.”

I set the travel thermos on the counter.

“Because you might need one for work, when you start your new job. I didn’t know if you already had one, but even if you do, you could keep one at home and one at the office.”

He picks it up and examines it. At first, I think he’s not impressed, but then he catches my gaze and smiles. “Thank you.”

I clear my throat. “Okay, favorite snack or drink. This one was challenging because I feel like you will eat anything.”

Griffin nods. “True.”
