Sophie, you feel incredible.

I love you.

My orgasm hits, and the familiar sensation of my belly tightening with each pulse makes it even more intense.

Hunter cleans us up, then offers me the light cotton robe I love to lounge in. We cuddle up in bed, staying there until the sun drops low in the sky and my bladder starts screaming at me.

Then, we shower and get ready for dinner.

We walk to one of the restaurants at the resort where we’re staying.

I wait while Hunter checks us in for our reservation.

“They’re running behind. Should we take a walk on the beach?”

I glance at my watch. If I would have known dinner was going to be delayed, I’d have eaten that granola bar Hunter set out on the table for me. That’s one thing I’ve discovered being pregnant, low blood sugar is no joke.

“How long did they say? Shouldn’t we be here in case they call our name?”

He nods toward the beach, taking my hand. “Five minutes.”

“Okay.”

While the days are sunny and warm, the evening breeze is cool, so I’ve opted for a light sweater over my long dress.

“I’m happy you’ve been able to take some time away from working. I know you’re anxious to get as much done as you can before the girls arrive.”

He’s right. Since I started my own business a few months ago, I’ve been working diligently on the few accounts I’ve decided to take on before the twins are here.

While I’m getting most of my business through my blog and social media following, Marion has also hired me as a consultant to offer my services to her clients. It’s the best of both worlds, and I’m loving the projects I’m working on.

I’m also trying to be mindful of how much I can take on right now. I’m seven months pregnant, and while I’m feeling pretty good at this point, I know most of the projects started now will need to be finalized after the girls arrive. No amount of preparedness is going to ready me for life once the twins are here. I’m aware of that and am now seeing a therapist who is helping me to work through past family trauma and this transitional time in my life.

“You were right. It has been challenging, but it’s also been the most fun.”

When we come to the spot where the path ends and we have to take our shoes off to walk on the sand, Hunter kneels down to help me remove my sandals, then takes my hand again.

“And I’m impressed by you not taking a single work call.”

“You know what I realized?”

“What?”

“That I was largely focused on work because I didn’t want to make time for anything else. Anyone else. Now, it feels easy to prioritize you because I want to.”

He kisses the back of my hand and I swoon.

“Are you excited for the baby shower next week?” he asks.

“Yes, and it’s technically babies shower. I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.” June helped Emma and Hannah plan it. And of course, Johnathan wanted input as well.

June did get offered a permanent position at Marion Adler Events and has been loving her new job. Her boyfriend, Allen, ended up moving to the city to be with her there. We still see each other often when I stop by to meet with Marion or Johnathan or one of the other wedding planning associates.

“I’m sure it will be perfect.”

I hit a patch of uneven sand and wobble sideways, but Hunter steadies me.

“How did you run on this?” I ask. “I can barely walk.”
