This morning Hunter ran four miles down the beach before I even got out of bed.

“It doesn’t help that your center of gravity is off. You’ll be back to it before you know it.”

“I hope so.”

Hunter squeezes my hand and I smile over at him. He’s wearing a white button-down with the sleeves rolled up and dark blue pants. His skin is tan from the sun and his jaw unshaven in a five o’clock shadow that I’ve been really into lately.

“Are you excited for the groundbreaking ceremony next week?” I ask.

“Yeah,” he nods, “it’s been a long time coming. I’m happy that the project has finally made it to this point.”

“Well, I’m excited to go. You’ve been so supportive of my new business; I can’t wait to be there for one of your big moments. Do you get to dig with a shovel and everything or is the ground too hard for that?”

“Um,” he says distractedly, “we should be able to shovel some dirt.”

“Do you think we should head back?” I ask. “I’m sure it’s been five minutes. I’m also getting hungry and you know that when I’m hungry I’ve got twenty minutes max before things start going downhill.”

“We don’t have a reservation at the restaurant.”

“What?” I ask, panic starting to set in. “Hunter, I need to eat. Very soon.”

“Don’t worry, baby. We’re going to eat. There’s a nice beach dinner set up for us.”

He motions down the beach to the glow of tiki torches where a table is set up on the quiet beach.

“Oh, thank goodness.” I’m so relieved, I could cry.

“But first…” he takes my sandals from my hand and sets them down on the sand. Then, he drops to one knee.

“Sophie, you have brought so much love and joy to my life.”

His throat works hard to swallow, and I can see the emotion in his eyes as my own start to water.

“I couldn’t even imagine this,” he reaches forward to palm my bump, “until I imagined it all with you. I can’t wait to be a parent with you. To grow and laugh with you as we inevitably make mistakes. But there’s another role I want…to be your husband. The man by your side every step of the way through life’s ups and downs.” He pulls out a small velvet box and opens it to reveal a diamond ring. “Sophie Renee Hart, will you marry me?”

I’m already nodding before I can get the words out.

“Yes,” I finally say, wiping at the tears streaming down my face while Hunter places the stunning diamond ring on my finger.

He stands to pull me into his arms, as best as he can with my bump in the way.

“I love you so much.” He kisses me.

“I love you, Hunter.”

He’s right. Neither of us could have imagined what our secret relationship would turn into. It was perfectly unplanned.

Epilogue Part 2

SIX MONTHS LATER

HUNTER

When Sophie bends down, the back of her robe lifts to reveal her luscious ass.

I look up to find her eyes meeting my hungry gaze, but she shakes her head and laughs. “Don’t even think about it. We’re running late.”

“But now that’s all I can think about.”
