Sophie opens her mouth, but a cry from Finley interrupts the moment.
“I got her. You go shower.”

Later, at Hannah and James’s wedding reception, the uncoupled guests are participating in some game where they find their numbered match to share a dance, while I’ve got my arms wrapped securely around Sophie’s waist as we sway to the music.
“Can you believe we’re going to do all of this in a few months?” she asks, looking up at me.
“I can’t wait.” I kiss her lips.
“For the planning to be over?” she laughs.
“No, for you to be my wife.”
She reaches up and presses her lips to mine again. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Now that the ceremony, dinner, and speeches are over, I can relax. The girls are already back at my parents’ hotel room with our nanny. They’ll relieve her after the reception.
Sophie lifts her head from my chest.
“Who is that guy dancing with Colette?” she asks.
I scan the dance floor, looking for them.
“That’s Rhys.”
Sophie’s brows shoot up. “The infamous Rhys? From summers at Lake George?”
“Yeah.” I nod, watching the childhood friends across the dance floor. “He’s back in the city now. My parents encouraged Hannah to invite him.”
“They look good together,” she says.
“Rhys and Colettetogether? That would be like oil and water mixing. They’re complete opposites.”
“In what way?” she asks.
I shrug. “Every way that counts. She’s sweet and focused on her dance career and he’s…what was it that Hannah called him? A fuckboy?”
Sophie laughs. “And you’re one to talk?” Her lips quirk as she teases me.
I pretend to be offended. “What are you trying to say, Mrs. Cartwright?” I let one of my hands slip lower to cup her ass.
“We never saw this going anywhere. Never thought we’d have a happily ever after.” Her fingers tease through the hair at the back of my neck. “And I’m not Mrs. Cartwright…yet.”
I growl against the shell of her ear. “Doesn’t matter, you’re still mine.”
I kiss her then because she’s right, this happy ending was accidentally ours, but I have every intention of making it last forever.
