We stare at each other, both of us quiet. Until this moment, we haven’t had an issue with almost getting caught.

“I shouldn’t have come here. I wanted to surprise you and I completely spaced that Griffin could still be here.”

I want to take it as a good sign that Sophie wanted to see me and momentarily forgot that she doesn’t want her brother to know about us, but I can tell she’s stressed about it now.

“Do you think he knows?” she whispers.

I shove my hands in my pockets. “That I had a woman servicing me under my desk? Yes.”

“Shit.” She bites her lip. “But he didn’t know it was me, right?”

I shake my head. “I don’t think so.”

“Should I leave?” she asks.

“No. It’s safer in here. You don’t want to run into him in the lobby.”

My hand cups her jaw and I place a gentle kiss on her lips.

My cock is still hard. I’m still dying to have her, but the mood has changed. Griffin’s appearance is a reminder that we’re hiding this from him, from the world, for a reason. And other than text messages, we haven’t talked in a week either, so I opt to help her off the desk and open the take-out bag instead.

It’s ramen from Momosan, my favorite Japanese restaurant in the city. I set the bowls of ramen at the small conference table in the corner of my office, then open the remaining box to find she ordered the sticky ribs appetizer as well.

A moan escapes my throat in anticipated pleasure of one of my favorite meals.

“I wasn’t sure which ramen was your favorite, so I got two kinds. And you mentioned you like those so…” She points to the box of sticky ribs but her voice trails off, a blush working its way across her cheeks. “I hope it’s okay.”

I lean down to kiss her softly on the lips.

“Everything looks great. Thank you for doing this.”

“Even though we almost got caught?” She smiles ruefully.

That feeling in my chest is back. The one from the ballet. It’s the same tug across my sternum that I got when I watched Sophie smile in delight at the performance, but then had to deny her meeting the dancers backstage because we didn’t want to be seen together.

I get that I’m older and Griffin’s boss and friend. There are complications. It’s only been a few weeks, but the element of secrecy in our relationship is starting to lose its appeal.

She hands me a set of chopsticks and a napkin from the bag.

“How did Griffin handle you dating growing up?” I ask, pulling my chopsticks apart.

“I didn’t date much. I was always on my best behavior, wanting to be helpful, not get into trouble in school or with boys. Griffin had enough to worry about, he didn’t need me to pile on with teenage girl drama.”

I nod taking in a bite of noodles and pork. When I’ve finished chewing, I continue the conversation.

“So, how did you lose your virginity?” I ask.

She sighs. “Why are we talking about this?”

“It’s conversation, Sophie.”

“A guy my freshman year in college. We were dating, or I thought we were, but after, he kind of ghosted.” She finally has her food arranged the way she wants and takes a bite.

“Sounds like an idiot.”

She simply shrugs.

“What about you?” she asks, wiggling her brows.
