She yawns.

“Hmm.” I nuzzle my face into Sophie’s hair. It smells like her shampoo, with a faint hint of sweaty sex. Our legs tangle together. The growing appendage between my legs presses against Sophie’s ass. I do my best to ignore it and soak in this moment.

It’s too good. Holding her in my arms. The thought of keeping her there all night, feeling her soft body against mine, then pressing into her slick heat in the morning. We wouldn’t even have to move. I could press into her from behind, my fingers teasing between her thighs while she arches her ass back into me.

I’m at peace, nearly about to doze off when she replies.

“It’s fine. I can only stay for a little while anyway. I’ve got to work at the bar at ten.”

That has my eyes popping open.

“What bar?” I ask, lifting to my elbow behind her.

“I got a second job waitressing at The Penrose.”

“Why do you need a second job?” I ask.

“Because living in this city is expensive, and eventually, I want to get my own place.” She laughs. “You sell condos for ten million dollars; I don’t think I need to explain the astronomical cost of living here to you.”

Suddenly, the peace I was feeling about holding Sophie in my arms all night evaporates.

“When did you start?” I ask.

“I went in for training last Thursday. Tonight is my first official night.”

I search for the words to say I don’t like this without sounding like a controlling asshole.

“But I need you here.” I end up sounding like a whiny teenager instead.

“Hmm. I’m here, until nine-thirty.”

I lift my arm to glance at my watch. It’s already nine.

The temptation to offer her whatever she needs is on the tip of my tongue. The tips she’d make tonight, I could easily pull from my wallet right now. But then I remember how she thought I was paying her for sex in Las Vegas and I know it’s not the right thing to do.

If she was any other woman, I’d offer her assistance to keep her here. That’s what most of the women I’ve dated want anyways, the clout and financial benefits that come with dating a billionaire, and my dick. That’s always been the most popular commodity. Come for the dick, stay for the amenities.

But Sophie isn’t most women. Maybe that’s why I want her to stay. Her drive and determination are qualities that attracted me to her in the first place. And I already know that she’d be highly offended, refuse my offer, then leave. She’ll eventually leave tonight, but I want us to be on good terms when she does.

Secret fuck buddies,we joked a few minutes ago, but it doesn’t sit well with me. Not because she’s Griffin’s sister and I want to be respectful. No, it’s more than that. I have the urge to protect her, to take care of her. I know she doesn’t want me to. Maybe that’s why the thought is even more appealing.

I drop my gaze to Sophie’s face. Her eyes are closed, her long lashes fanned over her cheeks. Her full, pink lips slightly parted as she breathes peacefully.

She snuggles in closer to me and sighs. “Can you set an alarm for twenty minutes?” she asks, not even opening her eyes.

“Sure,” I say, then press a soft kiss to her temple.

But I don’t bother to set an alarm. Instead, I spend the next twenty minutes staring at her while she rests.

At nine-thirty, I watch her get dressed and kiss her before she leaves. Then, I grab my laptop and get back into bed alone. For once, I wanted a woman to stay and she had to go.
