He shakes his head. “Lenox will be too busy getting pampered to even remember I exist. That’s the dream anyway,” he adds with an even faker laugh.

I force one, too. “Right.”

Too busy to remember her husband…and the woman he’s planning on fucking while she’s not around.

I knew Lex was lying. She didn’t fuck Kordin. If she did, he wouldn’t need to schedule a fuckfest with somebody else.

“Since she’ll be leaving early for the day, go ahead and come to me with your findings.”

The elevator stops at the sixth floor.

An arm on the door, I say, “I’ll have everything typed up and emailed to you by the end of the day,” knowing damn well I won’t.

The CEO doesn’t move, just remains where he is, not even looking at me as he says, “We can go over everything together during our morning meetup on Monday.”

“Morning meetup?”

“Yeah. Going forward, I think it’d be more beneficial for you to meet with me instead of Lenox.”

More beneficial for who?

Kordin wheels himself out but does a clunky two-point pivot to address me again, his eyes rising to only my chest. “Let’s keep this between us. Lenox has enough on her plate.”

“Consider it forgotten,” I tell him with a tap to my head, referencing his earlier remark.

“I knew I could count on you.”

His words hold a weight to them that sounds almost like, but I’m not sure why, triumph.

A pretty blonde with her hands behind her back and her perky tits piercing the sky, approaches, greeting, “Mr. Debrosse. Back so soon? It’s only been a few days.”

The large sign behind her reads, “Summit Enhancements” with a smaller motto underneath that says, “Elevate your vision.”

There are several other medical practices in the building, including a doctor who strictly does dental veneers. It’s like a one-stop shop for Fox Hollow’s elite.

“It’s the customer service I can’t get enough of,” he says before going ahead of her, making her keep pace with him.

I fix my gaze on the backs of their heads, wondering what the fuck just happened. Kordin speaks in endless backhanded compliments. His tone is smooth and concise, while his words are jagged and hard to navigate. In no way do I believe he considers Lex an angel or that he’s sending her away to helpher. I’m the one he offered to let rape her. Where was his great concern for Lex’s wellbeing then?

Up until this moment, I thought Lex was the most calculated person I’d ever met, but Kordin Debrosse is the real actor. Butwhyis he acting? If he’s not the one ripping off his company, what’s he hiding? It can’t just be the affairs. Most guys try to make their wives sound worse than they actually are as a way to justify their cheating. Not Kordin. He’s over here hyping his wife up. Lenox Debrosse, the extravagance-demanding angel.

Neither of which has been my experience with Lex.

With him busy getting his eyesight checked and Lex talking with HR, that leaves their house empty and free to explore for clues.

Peeling out of the parking lot, I race toward it without a backward glance.

The massive Colonial is still, stiller than it is at night when its occupants are fast asleep. Starting in the kitchen, I scour it top to bottom. Everything’s fucking spotless, to the point it reminds me of a model home. There is a pill box holding various pills for each day of the week though, proving it’s not. The pantry is pretty bare, mostly stocked with dust-covered half-empty bottles of alcohol, bags of nuts, vitamins—D, B, and Ashwagandha—and some kind of tea that makes me gag when I open the container. Other than fresh fruits and vegetables filling every shelf and drawer in the fridge, there’s not a lot of food. No dairy whatsoever. The freezer has tubs of ice cubes in all different shapes and sizes, along with a few eye masks. The eye masks belong to Lex, I know that, but the rest… Is Kordin a health freak?

Someone living here cares a lot about what goes in their body.

Or lack thereof. Who the fuck can live off berries, nuts, and ice?

Who’d want to?

It can’t be Kordin. No way his rich-blood would tolerate a diet of fucking raspberries. It’s gotta be Lex. I’ve only ever seen her consume black coffee.

I head to their suite next, combing the entire room as well as the bathroom and both attached closets. Other than the drawer of vibrators in Lex’s nightstand, the bedroom doesn’t have anything of interest. The bathroom doesn’t give me much either, not even glasses, lens cleaner, or contact solution for Kordin, only a bottle of eye drops in Lex’s side of the drawers. For someone who visits the eye doctor so frequently—twice in one week—I would’ve thought there’d be some sort of sign.
