Scanning the crowd, I search for any possible familiar faces, but there are so many that they’re impossible to focus on.

People in the crowd begin talking, taking some of the pressure off me as their volume increases. They’re all still staring at me, but less alarmed now that I’ve been given a blanket.

I watch the people for a moment, unsure what to do from here.

A tall, lengthy woman toward the front of the group pushes her way forward, emerging at the bottom of the stairs. She takes a step forward, but she’s quickly stopped by a strong wall of legion guards.

“Let her through,” I call out before I know what I’m saying.

I don’t know why I said it, but I did. Something about her is drawing me in, compelling me to speak with her.

A guard turns around to make eye contact with Izan, waiting for him to grant my request.

He hesitates, but after a stern look from me, he nods toward the guard, repeating my words, “Let her through.”

“Thank you,” I whisper.

He leans toward me, speaking so quietly only the two of us can hear, “You better be onto something here.”

I clear my throat and clasp my hands, waiting for the woman to clear the stairs. She has silver eyes similar to my own, and her dirty blonde hair falls to her shoulders, swaying as she ascends the stairs.

As I take in the sight of the unfamiliar woman, I catch a glimpse of what I think is a familiar face, and I lean to see around him, but her large frame blocks most of my view. I take a step to the side as my heart begins to pound, quickening with each passing second.

The woman reaches the top of the stairs just ashecomes into focus.

Dreyden.

Sudden relief washes over me, and I let out the breath I’d been holding. I feel like I’m breathing for the first time since last night.

He’s staring at me, just like everyone else around me, and he appears to be somewhere between pissed off and concerned, but I don’t care. I don’t care about the fight we got into yesterday, and I don’t care about his over-protective, possessive attitude.

Seeing him makes the tension and anger melt away, and in this moment all I need is to be with him, tangled in his arms while he sweeps me off my feet into the tightest embrace.

Stepping around the woman, I begin to descend the stairs, forgetting we’re surrounded by thousands of strangers. Time seems to stand still, and I can’t get to him fast enough.

I’m halfway down the stairs when I’m suddenly pulled from my hypnotic trance.

“Are you… Adeena Devna?”

I freeze on the stairs, hesitantly withdrawing my eyes from Dreyden. I turn to meet the eyes of the unfamiliar woman at the top of the castle steps. “What?” I question, confused as to how she knows my name.

Her eyes are locked on mine as she repeats his words, “Are you Adeena Devna, High Lady of Sky?”

Chapter Eleven

DREYDEN

My world stands still as the words leave her mouth.

“Are you Adeena Devna, High Lady of Sky?” the unfamiliar face asks my mate.

How the fuck does she know her name? And why does she call her by the name bestowed upon her by the gods?

Adeena’s lips part as her jaw drops slightly. Her chest rises as she inhales a sharp, sudden breath. Her eyes leave the unidentified woman to find me, and I know she needs me.

The crowd breaks out in a frenzied panic, screaming and yelling for Adeena. She’s overwhelmed by the deafening chaos, looking between me and the thousands of fae standing on my front lawn. There’s a flood of emotion flowing through her devastatingly beautiful face.

I can’t push my way through the crowd quickly enough, so I unfold my wings, shoving a few people backward in the process. My wings beat hard as I bend my knees, then jump, catching hold of the air with my wings. I rise over the massive crowd, clearing the tops of their heads as I fly toward my mate. Most of the fae are so distracted by Adeena that they don’t even bat an eye at my powerful presence.
