He lowers his hand, settling it at his side as he opens his mouth, “He’s-“

I can’t wait any longer. The words aren’t spilling from his mouth fast enough. I have to get to Dreyden.

I push past him, catching him by surprise as I force him out of my way. He steps aside but reaches for my arm. I avoid his grip as I begin running down the hallway.

“Adeena!” Izan shouts from behind me, but I keep running. “Adeena!” he repeats louder this time.

“Why did you let me sleep so long?” I yell as I continue my panicked search for Dreyden.

I glance into each open door as I pass, searching for a glimpse of him. If he’s hurt I’ll never forgive myself for the way I spoke to him yesterday. My words were hurtful and he deserves better from me.

Izan’s boots collide with the marble floors as he starts after me. He’s shouting after me, but his words are a blur as the seconds pass by. My heart pounds in my chest harder than I’ve ever felt before, and I swear it’s going to bruise.

Closing in on the front entrance, I hear Izan gaining ground behind me.

“Adeena, wait!” His voice echoes against the giant doors as I force them open. “You can’t go out there!”

He’s too late.

Sunlight floods my eyes, blinding me momentarily while my pupils adjust to the outside world. I take a step into the light, shielding my eyes as I cautiously walk onto the landing overlooking the steps down to the front lawn.

My jaw falls as my eyes focus beyond the castle steps.

An audience of fae at least ten thousand strong crowd the lawn, and they’re all watchingme.

“Wha…” The words are caught in my throat, choking air from my lungs. “What is this?” I ask Izan, feeling his powerful presence behind me.

“Adeena, you need to get back inside,” Izan’s voice is a warning behind me, but I don’t understand.

Why would Izan stop me from seeing this? Why are these people here?

And why are they so focused on me?

“Adeena,” Izan growls behind me, sending a shiver down my back. He never talks to me like this.

Throwing my hands up, I twist to meet his glare. As I turn, I feel the breeze slip by my bare stomach, opening the scandalous robe I’d slipped into this morning before crawling into bed.

Izan’s eyes widen at the unfiltered view of my naked body. “I tried to tell you.”

I snatch the robe in my hands, clenching it shut, but the entire thing is made of thin silk and lace. Closing it does little to hide my bare body. My cheeks warm as humiliation washes over me.

If I’d stopped to listen to Izan’s warning and not run out here like a crazed lunatic lost without her mate, I would have saved myself from a world of embarrassment.

“Wrap her in this,” Revna orders Izan as she holds a woven blanket through the entryway.

Izan doesn’t hesitate to take it from her, quickly unfolding the white material as he crosses the landing. “Here,” he says as he holds it up, gesturing for me to step into it.

“Thank you,” I whisper as Izan drapes the blanket around me, covering my far too exposed body.

Lyra appears in the entryway behind us, gasping the words as she steps outside with us, “Oh my. What is going on?”

Izan shakes his head as he crosses his arms over his rock-hard chest. “I don’t know. They arrived a few minutes ago and they’re asking for Adeena.”

I eye Izan as I ask, “They’re asking for me? Why?”

“They won’t say. They just keep asking for you and they won’t talk to anyone.”

Lyra rests her hand over my shoulder in the most comforting way as she comes to my side. “That explains why they’re all staring at you.”
