She saved me from taking any more shots. She saved us all with every stride she took toward the enemy, releasing bullet after bullet.

Without a shadow of a doubt, she was made for us.

This world, our lifestyle, isn’t for most, but fuck, when she’s in action, it’s like she’s the one who created it all.

She walks with confidence, she aims with precision, and she slays like it’s her birthright.

She runs her tongue over her bottom lip and shuffles closer. “I know it’s the worst question, but are you okay? Is there anything I can get you?” she asks, lifting her hand from my chest and running her fingers lazily through the ends of my hair as I smile up at her.

“I’m fine now that you’re here,” I murmur, hissing at the pain vibrating through me as the SUV jolts on the uneven road beneath us.

Fucker.

“Talk real with me, Enzo. I’m worried about you.”

Does she think I would just say that for the sake of it? Like I wouldn’t mean it?

“I don’t think you’re ready for my real,” I manage to respond, my body slowly getting weaker as I try to fight off the bullet lodged in my gut.

“Try me.”

Two words. Just two, and she has no idea what she’s unleashed. But with the pain I’m in and the uncertainty that surrounds me like a storm, I give her what she wants.

“I’m obsessed with you,” I admit, reaching for her hand with my free one, and lacing our fingers together.

She doesn’t miss a beat as she leans closer, looking down at me with a small grin on her lips. “I’m obsessed with you too.”

My heart stutters in my chest, not the best reaction when I’m in such a state, but I have no control over my body.

“You’re messing with me,” I grumble, wincing with the pain I’m in as she shakes her head at me.

“You have the ability to crush me, an ability I’ve never given anyone else the chance to do, but the three of you… fuck, I wouldn’t have a choice even if you did.” Her words are like a forbidden truth as they tear from her lips, her eyes shifting down to where our hands are joined as I process the truth behind every word.

“Crushing you isn’t on my agenda,Bella, and I get the feeling it’s not something either of my brothers are interested in either.” If I weren’t in so much pain right now, I would show her just how much I crave her.

“I think what Enzo is trying to say is that we can’t quite figure out how you got under our skin so seamlessly, so effortlessly, but we’re not sad that you’re there. If anything, we need it more than the air we breathe.” I glance to Matteo who sits across from me, his forearms braced on his knees as his gaze remains latched on Wren’s.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Wren doesn’t get a chance to respond as the SUV rolls to a stop, making me cringe once more as my body stiffens and the pain vibrating through me accelerates.

“Please fucking tell me we’re there. I’m struggling to keep my eyes open,” I mumble, the pressure on the hoodie slacking as I look at Wren.

“We’re here.” I can’t tell if she’s disappointed or relieved by the interruption, but I can’t push her to find out because the door opens a moment later and a guy I’m not familiar with sticks his head in.

“Ethan, hey, I know I asked for you, but we’re nowhere near Richmond. I thought Luna would send someone else,” Wren says, clearly aware of whoEthanis, but she doesn’t cut the distance between them, wrap her arms around him or even smile for that matter.

My brows furrow, as do both Vito’s and Matteo’s as we watch them interact, despite the blood coating my skin.

“I was in Manhattan when Luna called, so I made a dash for it. Luckily, I was on my motorcycle so I was able to get through the traffic a bit quicker.”

I can’t decide if I like this guy or not.

It could be completely nothing, but the familiarity he has with Wren pisses me off more than I care to admit, even if he is here to save my fucking life.

“Well, thank you, I know Enzo will be in good hands.” She turns her eyes to mine, a soft smile on her lips as she squeezes my hand one last time before edging back. “I promise you, I wouldn’t trust you in anyone else’s hands half as much as I do this guy, and believe me, I need you more than my next breath.”

Her words consume my mind. The understanding in both of our eyes as she refers to what Matteo said moments earlier.
