Page 6 of Dark & Beastly Fae

I had no idea who the voice was talking to, but it sounded like the male fae’s.

“She’s going to drain herself dry.”The gorgeous male voice was getting angrier.

I wondered if I’d started hallucinating, because I honestly thought the voice might’ve been speaking into mymind.

My eyes closed just as the fae behind me jerked my head to the side and said into my ear, “Sillah ovim rett warum.”

The words sent tingles down my spine.

I had no idea what they meant, but I could feel them start changing something. Something deep inside me, where my magic was.

Something like… my soul.

That couldn’t have been right, though. Could it?

The tingles in my spine turned to pins, and I bit back a scream as the pain grew excruciating. The fae man pressed me against the jungle cat harder, all butshovingme against the creature while I bit my cheek.

Something swelled in my middle—something new, hard, dead, andcold.

Ice magic, something inside me seemed to whisper. The same icy power I knew all of the fae possessed.

But why could I feel a fae’s power inside me?

The fae man swore into my ear, “Veil, what is wrong with your magic?”

I honestly had no idea.

My power was over plants, obviously. But why was it uncontrollable? And why did it drain me so damn fast?

I didn’t have answers.

But the ice magic that had appeared in my chest did seem to be slowing the drain of my power, somehow. I was still absolutely exhausted to the point of not functioning, but relief had my body relaxing.

“What did he do?”I wondered, the thought clear and strong.

“Don’t speak into my mind, human.”

Apparently, I was right about hearing his thoughts.

At least I wasn’t going insane.

“I’m not trying to. What did you do to me?” I asked.

“Mated us, temporarily. The next eclipse will remove the bond.”

The words made my mind reel and my world spin even more than it was already spinning.

“Mated?” My words sounded faint.

He didn’t bother confirming it. We both knew I’d heard him correctly.

I had no idea what it meant to be mated to a fae—I was fairly sure it was their version of marriage—but I also had no energy to figure that out.

So, I just leaned my head against the cat beneath me, closed my eyes, and let myself fall asleep.

The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself staring up at what looked like a chunk of solid ice. If I was surrounded by ice, I logically should’ve felt cold, but there was no chill in the air.

I sat up slowly, taking stock of my surroundings.
