Elena throws her hands up in the air. “I wasn’t running away. I was literally going for a run. Around the compound. I didn’t leave. And I took my guards. What more do you want me to do? I told you I wouldn’t run again.” She says defensively.

“Even if you did. I would hunt you down. Which is what I had to do this morning, after I woke up alone, with no note or text and your shoes gone.”

Bowing her head, and kissing his chin. “You looked so peaceful, and I know you haven’t been sleeping much. I didn’t want to wake you. I’m sorry. Next time I will wake you to tell you before I leave.”

“Thank you.” He seals it with a kiss to her lips.

“Possessive bastard.” She grumbles.

“Yep.” Luca gives her another kiss, then stands, and places her back on the chair he vacated. Turning to Tino and Massimo he asks if they are ready.

I give Tino a questioning look. I didn't realize he had to work today. Speaking of work, I wonder when I can go back to working in the hospital.

“Sorry babe. Council wants an update. We’ve got a call with them in an hour. You good to hang out with Elena and Liv?”

I give a nod. “Sure. No worries. Do your thing.”

“Thanks babe. I’ll come find you as soon as I’m done.”

The three men leave the room, while we clean up the breakfast plates. Once that’s done, Elena turns to give me her best Cheshire cat grin. “Let’s get you in the ring.” She doesn’t let me respond before she’s grabbing my arm and dragging me down into the basement. She stops at a door just before the gym. It’s a locker room. Tossing me some clothes, she then turns and strips off her own. Okay then.

The three of us meet in the gym once we are all changed. We stretch in comfortable silence before I jump on the treadmill to warm-up. Elena does the same, while Livianna moves to do some yoga poses.

Once my blood is pumping, I turn off the machine. Elena copies. Moving to the ring, we wrap our hands and climb between the ropes.

“I've been curious to see how well we'll match up.” Says Elena.

I give her a smile. I’m usually really confident when I go up against other females. Elena is different. I’ve heard the stories. She was raised by her single mother on the run. They were constantly fighting for their life against a team of hit-men. To protect themselves, Elena trained with a man named Ronan.

He sounds bad-ass so I’m sure her skills will give me a challenge.

“Let's see what you got.” I tease.

I take a moment to observe her. We are similarly built so neither of us can use the other’s size or weight against the other. And from what I have seen, we are both pretty nimble.

We start off slow. I can tell we are each trying to learn each other’s fighting styles. I have found that she pays more focus to my typical weak spots. Ribs, kidneys, knees. All good places. She was trained by someone who knew she might be up against men she could take out, so she would need to take them down, or bend them over in pain while she escaped.

That’s not the way I trained. I trained to take the punches until their arms weakened. Then attack. I was trained to stay within the ropes. There is no running or hiding from your opponent. No weapons aside from your hands and feet. I can see her beginning to tire. She thinks she has the upper hand. She's landed a few good hits. My ribs on the left side are screaming and I can feel blood on my eyebrow seeping down the side of my face.

I watch her feet. She is planting them, readying to land her final blow.

Or so she thinks.

She’s wrong.

It’s my turn to play.

I dodge under her swing, then kick out her legs. She falls to the mat. I go down too, sweeping her onto her stomach so I can get her body locked. She is completely at my mercy. It's then that the doors slam open.

Even without her tapping out, I know the fight is over now. Luca will have my head if I manager to make her lose consciousness.

That was one of the best fights I've had mentally. Reading and anticipating my opponent. It was a nice change. Men are far too predictable. Elena had some stereotypical moves, but overall she was a good mix of techniques.

Luca practically runs to us and jumps into the ring. He pushes me away from Elena. Not hard but I can tell it's a warning. Tino is right behind him, and grabs me as I stumble a step back. He growls. Literally growls at his brother.

Luca is running his hands over Elena looking for injuries. He won't find any. She'll be sore. I made sure not to break anything or make her bleed. Tomorrow though is a different story. She'll have a bruise on her cheek, rib and hip. Her knuckles could use some ice too.

“Relax caveman. She didn't hurt me.” She says to Luca as she let’s him fawn all over her.
