Ellie

We talked longer through emails than we had before. Neither one of us wanting to stop talking to the other. Especially since we don’t know when we will get another opportunity. After three hours, we called it, I was more excited about meeting him and looking forward to the next few months until we could meet.

Chapter 5

Ryan

Four months later

My flight lands in Maine, at the Largo airport. I haven’t been back on US soil in almost four years. The last time I was in the states, my heart was broken by those I loved. Now, here I am coming to see Jonathan and his family, plus meet Ellie.

I’m still wondering what possessed me to ask her to meet for dinner on Valentine’s, but she came through and found a local resort with a restaurant on site that had a table available, so I called, and they also had a room. That is where I will be staying while I’m in town.

Largo is about four hours away from my hometown of Boston. If I wanted to, I could go home and see my parents while I’m here, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to do that just yet.

I make my way to the baggage carousel and see Jonathan waiting for me. I lift my hand in a wave and make my way over to him.

“Hey man, how are you doing?” I ask as I give him a man hug.

“I’m good, Ry,” he responds with a smile.

“You look good. So, when’s the wedding?” I ask

“June. Shawna wants a summer wedding.”

“That’s awesome, man. I’m happy for you, and you delivered your son. Your own Christmas baby,” I say as I grab my bag off the carousel.

“Yep. It was the scariest shit I have ever done, but the most rewarding, too,” he says with a huge ass grin.

“I can’t wait to meet them both. What have you been up to?” I ask as we make our way to the parking deck.

“I’ve decided to join Scott Hayes' team at Top Grunt.”

“That's great, you will make an outstanding bodyguard. I’m glad everything is working out for you,” I tell him sincerely.

“How’s Gray? I’ve tried to reach out to him, but he doesn’t really talk much through emails.”

“Yeah. I think his father’s death has hit him harder than he wants to let on. I’m happy we convinced him to go home when we did, but I hate that he lost his dad and then left his mom to come back to the team. To be honest, I’m not sure how long he will stay. I can see him wavering every time he gets off the phone with his mom. I think he’s very worried about her,” I admit.

“I can imagine the war waging inside him.” He grips the steering wheel as we get in the car. “Did you find a place to stay while you are in town, or did you want to stay with us?” he asks.

“I got a room at the local resort in town, but thanks for the offer,” I respond.

“That’s good. So how about I run you over there to check-in, then we can go back to my place for dinner with Shawna and Jacob. After dinner, I can take you back.”

“That sounds great. Thank you.”

Jonathan starts the car, and we make our way out of the airport and to the resort.

I take in the area as we pull up to the resort. This place is breathtakingly beautiful. It has a golf course on site, not that I’m much of a golfer, but there is a lighthouse on the property as well, next to a gorgeous lake.

“Wow, the pictures on the internet didn’t do this place justice,” I whisper.

“You know, I never even knew this was here. It really is beautiful. If Shawna didn’t want to get married at the same venue where we met, I would definitely suggest this place,” he tells me, and I nod in agreement.

I get out of his truck and head inside to check-in. The reception area is absolutely stunning, with marble tiles on the floor and a coastal blue on the walls. Everything feels serene, bright, welcoming, and peaceful. I take in a calming breath before walking up to the check-in desk.

“Good afternoon, welcome to the Island Resort, how can I help you today?”
