Looking at her name tag, I notice it says Cami. “Thank you, Cami. I have a reservation, Ryan Finnegan.”

“Wonderful. Let’s get you checked in,” she says with a smile, typing away on her computer. I see her looking over at me a couple of times from the side of her eyes. She prints out the paperwork for me to sign.

“I have upgraded your room to the Suite,” Cami informs me.

I look at her with questioning eyes.

“It’s a thank you for your service. I have a brother serving in the Army, so I can normally spot a soldier very quickly, plus the haircut gives it away as well,” she chuckles.

“Thank you, but you didn't need to do this,” I tell her.

“I know, but we should always honor our soldiers, and this is just a little token of our appreciation here at Island Resort for your sacrifice and duty to our country,” she tells me with a smile.

“Thank you,” I mutter with embarrassment, while I sign the paper, and she hands me the room key.

“Let us know if we can be of service to you any further during your stay.”

“I will. Thanks again,” I say as I make my way to my room to drop off my bag. When I walk into the room, I’m immediately struck by the view. I can see nothing but a lake looking out the glass door that leads to a balcony I’m sure to use.

I quickly drop my bag next to the bed and head back to where Jonathan is waiting for me. I don’t want to keep him waiting any longer than I already have, but I definitely plan on checking out the suite more and that view when I return.

I get in the car with Jonathan, and he looks over at me. “All good?”

“Yeah. They upgraded me to a suite with a view of the lake,” I tell him, shaking my head.

“That was nice of them. You know tomorrow’s Valentine’s, do you have any plans?”

“Yeah, I’m going to meet up with another friend for dinner.”

“I didn’t know you knew anyone else here.” He looks over at me questioningly.

“I didn’t realize it either, until I mentioned coming to see you. What about you and Shawna? Any plans to take her out tomorrow night?” I ask to change the subject. I’m not ready to talk about Ellie yet.

“Yeah. Her parents are going to keep Jacob for the night, so we can have some alone time,” he chuckles and I laugh.

“Planning on making another baby you can deliver?” I ask with a laugh.

“Another baby, maybe. Delivering? Umm, no, I think once is enough.” He replies, laughing as well.

We enjoy the ride back to his and Shawna’s place, talking about everything, while he points out places. I find I’m actually looking forward to meeting his family.

When we walk into the house, I see a gorgeous blond, holding a bundle, standing and talking to another couple.

“Ryan, this is my fiancee, Shawna, our son Jacob, my brother Rob and his wife, Savannah. Everyone, this is my team member and friend Ryan.”

“Nice to meet you all,” I say with a smile as I shake everyone’s hands.

“Ryan, come sit down, dinner is just about ready. Jon, can you go put this little guy in his crib. I think I finally have him asleep,” Shawna says, handing the baby to Jon, who looks like he won the lottery, and I guess he kind of did.

Rob and I sit down at the table chatting, while the ladies set the dinner on the table. Jon comes back and kisses the side of his fiancee’s head.

“Smells great babe.”

I see her blush as she replies. “Thank you.”

Everyone sits down and passes each dish around. Food tastes amazing, and the conversation flows like we’ve all known each other forever. It’s the first time since I landed that I actually feel relaxed.

Rob and Savannah offer to take me back to the resort, so Jon could stay and help Shawna with Jacob, who decided his nap time was over.
