“Of course, I don’t want Sharon to accidentally find it before I’m ready.”
While Ty walks to his locker, I didn’t notice Connor walking into the bathroom area. Ty walks back over to me and opens up the little black box.
“Wow, Ty, that is gorgeous.”
“You think so?”
“Yes, absolutely. She is going to love it,” I whisper.
He smiles big, “Thanks. Hey, could you not tell anyone, I don’t want everyone giving me a hard time.”
“No worries, your secret is safe with me,” I tell him.
He puts the ring and box back in his locker, just as Lieutenant Clark comes in, “Hey Chief, what’s going on?”
I look up and see Connor looking from me to Ty, his face giving nothing away, but I can see anger swirling in his eyes.
“Nothing, Lieutenant. Have you got that report completed from the fire on Friday?”
“Almost completed, Chief. I’ll have it on your desk before the end of the shift.”
“Sounds good. Who's on cooking detail tonight?”
“I am Chief,” Lieutenant says.
“Good, let me know when it’s ready,” he says, looking at me before walking away.
“Yes, Chief,” Clark calls out to a retreating Connor’s back.
What the hell is wrong with Connor? Why is he upset?I think as I watch him walking away.
CHAPTER NINE
CONNOR
Iwalk back to the office, seething at how happy Samantha looked with Tyson holding that ring. The looks they were giving each other while they were both smiling and whispering.
Part of me knows there is nothing going on between Tyson and Samantha. We have all met Sharon, and we all know Tyson is in love with her, but seeing Samantha smiling and whispering with another guy had me gritting my teeth.
I promised her we would keep work and home separate, and yet, not even a day, and I’m failing. I rub my face, needing to get my feelings in check before I do something stupid.
I eat dinner in my office, locking myself away so as not to see her bonding with the guys. Thankfully we get no more calls through the night, and as promised, Colin brings me the report that I requested, as well as the report on the kitchen fire from today.
I was able to bury my head into work until our shift was over. With the next shift coming on, I grab my things. I walk into the bay and see the team with their things, talking to the other guys coming on.
I walk to my vehicle and watch Sam walk to hers while talking to Tyson. I will have to find out what is going on with those two. I see Sharon waiting for Tyson by her car. I watch him wave at Sam, and walk over to Sharon with a huge smile.
I take a deep breath, start my car and follow behind Sam to her house. I pull into her driveway behind and get out. I walk over to her car just as she opens her door.
“Connor, what the hell is going on?” she immediately asks, stepping out of her car.
I look at her, remembering how close she and Tyson were.
“What is the deal with you and Strahn?”
“What? Tyson and I have been friends since high school. What is the big deal?”
“You both looked very close and comfortable with each other.”
