“You’re not leaving for a run, Claire. We can work out together.”

I swear there’s a glint of heat in his stare, and I know we’re both thinking of our last workout. Heat rushes up my neck, and his smile widens.

Asshole.

I sigh, my shoulders drooping forward.

He’s won, and he knows it.

Raising his hand, he feathers his thumb across my cheek. “You’re blushing.”

Well done, Captain Obvious. I can’t breathe either. Can you see that?

“Am not,” I lie, casting my eyes to the ground.

He laughs, low and gravelly. The sound assaults my ears and does unwanted things between my legs.

I feel him inch closer, and my breath hitches. “Afraid to get a little sweaty with me, Claire?”

Oh, mother divine.

Why?

Why does he do this?

My next inhale is shaky, my knees locking, but I fight through. He may have a valid point about going for a run, but I refuse to allow him to win this, too. I’m not going to be the only one fuelled by being horny on the treadmill.

Biting down, I stretch up on my tiptoes, my mouth skimming his chin, his stubble tickling. Wetting my lips, we’re so close my tongue touches his skin. He doesn’t move, but his every pant is matching mine. My nipples pebble against his chest, and the stiffness in his jaw tells me he notices.

Good.

Fluttering my eyelashes, I take one last sweep of his face, trying not to get sucked in by his hooded lids and the heat radiating from his body, before I whisper, “But I’m so good at getting sweaty on my own.”

I purse my lips to stifle the giggle ready to erupt as his eyes widen.

Falling back on my heels, I take a step back, not sure what he’s going to do now. His hands ball into fists, the veins in his arms protruding like he’s fighting to hold back—and oh, there it is—he’s pitching a tent in his pants.

Success.

Patting his chest one last time, I step around him with a bounce.

“Come on, big man,” I summon as I leave the kitchen and toward the gym. “I’ll even let you watch.”

While throwing his head back, he digs his teeth into the skin of his knuckles, biting down, and a groan comes from deep in his throat.

He spins around, the golden specks in his eyes turning dark, pinning me to my spot. He drags his eyes from the floor, dancing over every inch of my body, pulling me in like a magnet. But I still can’t move.

One step forward, and my heart leaps into my throat.

Not this again.

“No, Jake,” I warn, holding out my hand like I’ll be able to stop him with my imaginary powers. I’m pretty sure my full force wouldn’t make a difference. “Don’t you dare.”

Another step.

My throat tightens, and I cough to clear it.

Great. I’m choking on air now.
