“Please,” I beg, the familiar feeling bubbling in my stomach, and I know it won’t be long before I erupt into nervous giggles.

One last confident step forward before he growls, “Run.”

Holy shit.

Spinning around, I try to quicken my pace, but it’s no use. His strides are too big, and I’m scooped up and wrapped around his waist before I can blink again.

“Stop, Jake. Please.” My eyes blur over with tears of laughter, my body bouncing with every easy step he takes down the hall.

I feign a struggle, but when a man like Jake picks you up and runs away with you, you don’t fight—you strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

I try to quench my disappointment when he doesn’t take the stairs. I don’t know why. We agreed to one night, but the idea of having his body on mine one more time is too much. I know I won’t be able to say no because I want it more than I want air in my lungs.

Halting outside the gym, he pins me against the wall, his eyes stripping me bare.

“You’re a little more trouble than I expected.”

“I hope so,” I whisper, breathless and too turned on to form proper sentences.

Hovering over me, he leans forward. His breath across my face causes me to whimper, and the stiffness in his pants is hard against my core. My eyes roll, the friction and having him this close doing little for my resolve. My defenses fall apart, crumbling between us until all that’s left is body against body.

His hands leave my legs, one cupping my ass, the other pressed against the curve of my back. Hot mouth against my throat, my head falls back, giving him more access.

Giving him everything.

Across my jaw, he doesn’t stop kissing me until his eyes meet mine again, entirely at his mercy when his hand delicately flattens against the base of my throat.

“Have you any idea how hard it is for me to let you go right now?”

Then don’t.

Oh, God, please don’t.

“I thought having you would stop me from wanting you. But now I know the sounds you make when you come undone, and you’ve made me an addict.”

His head falls against mine.

“Jake…”

Grinding his teeth, he shuts his eyes, and I can almost see his restraint in the momentary dent between his brows.

My eyes feel heavy with tears that won’t fall, and my chest is too weighted to even think of breathing.

Painfully, he lowers me back on unsteady feet, his eyes never leaving mine. He keeps me upright with his grip on my upper arms, moving only to place a soft kiss on my forehead.

I close my eyes, relishing in the feel of him.

A quick pulse of his fingers against my skin, and he disappears into the gym, leaving his curse lingering in the air after him.

Flattening my palms, I fall against the wall, hoping to relieve the heat rushing under my skin.

It went too far.

It went too far the moment I stepped inside this house.

Now I’m panting against the wall, wondering why a single tear is leaking from the corner of my eye and why my body is already mourning his absence.
