Four of them stride toward us, determination set in their shoulders.

Screaming, Mandy scrambles to her feet, kicking sand in the air. She grabs my arm, pulling me.

“Claire, run.”

“Why?”

“Quick. They’re going to throw us in.”

Oh, shit.

I’m on my feet and already pointing at him. “Jake,” I warn.

He’s downright bemused. “I don’t know how much power you think that finger holds.”

“Get her, Dad,” Jay-Jay cheers.

Poor Mandy is already screaming.

“Jay-Jay, I thought you were on my side.”

He shrugs. “Sorry, Claire.”

“Traitor.”

I run.

I’m out of here.

For five seconds.

“Jake,” I screech. “Stop it. Right now.”

I’m kicking and screaming, but his grip is so tight, I’ll never get out of this.

I feel splashes of water on my back before I’m thrown into the air.

Bastard.

I’m submerged.

It’s freezing.

Sputtering and gasping for air, I jump up.

“I’ll get you back for this.” I shiver, teeth chattering.

The words leave my mouth and I’m splashed in the face.

Wiping my eyes, Jay-Jay is laughing his little ass off. Jake is no better.

“You boys are going to be the death of me.”

They look at each other and roll their eyes. “Girls.”

Boysarestinky.

“Well, come on then. I’m in here now. You two better join me.”
