I’m so confused.
“No,” she giggles. “That one didn’t have my name on it. It was hers.”
“How did you get it?”
“Daddy gave it to me.”
My blood runs cold.
“When sweetie? When did daddy give you the bunny?”
She takes more juice.
“Hannah,” I demand, reaching out to touch her leg when I frighten her. “When did daddy give you the bunny?”
Her eyes water, but I can apologize later.
“Today. At the zoo. We have to wait for him, Claire. I told him I was going to see my baby sister tonight. I thought Mom was coming home, and he said he would meet us here. We’re going for ice-cream.”
Fumbling with the buckle of my belt, I try to dive into the back seat.

“Hannah, get out of your car seat.”
The scream gets trapped in my throat when her door opens. “There’s daddy’s princess.”
I try to grab her, but it’s no use. I’m clutching at the air.
He has her in his arms in the next breath.

I will my legs to move, getting out and rushing after them.
“Rob, please put her down.”
He spins, and the smile curling on his bruised lips makes me shudder.
My eyes dart around the parking lot. There are people in the distance.

“Ah,” he stops me, waving a finger back and forth. “I wouldn’t if I were you. I’ll have her in the car and out of here before anyone gets here.”

He sets her on her feet. “Get in and buckle up, Princess.”
“Hannah,” I roar, startling her.
