His tired chuckle makes me squirm.

“I’m not your boss. I can’t fire you.”

Once I throw my legs over the edge of the bed, the room begins to spin.

I think I’m still drunk.

He grabs my elbow. “Wait. Fuck. I almost forgot. Let me help you.”

I bark a laugh under my breath. “I’m pretty sure I can dress myself.”

He walks around to the side of the bed, crouching in front of me. We stay still. He stares at my forehead. I stare at how those black boxers are hanging deliciously low on his hips. Line after line of abs, and I think I’m drooling.

Why is he still staring at my forehead?

He frowns, reaching his fingers up to brush them across my face, and everything in me goes to mush.

“How is it?”

“Nice.” I smile, my breathing coming faster.

His eyes scrunch to slits as he laughs under his breath, and my face lights on fire.

What’s so funny?

“I’m glad it’s nice. But I’m talking about your head.”

“My head? What’s wrong with my head?” As I say it, I pat the back of my hand across my forehead, and like a tsunami, memories of last night come washing over me.

And oh. My. God.

World, open, and swallow me whole.

Last night, after we’d finished yet another random conversation, I plucked up the courage to ask, “What age are you, anyway?”

He gulped the last of his drink before nodding toward the barman for another two. Leaning back on his stool, he smirked, crossing his arms over his chest.

Smug bastard.

“Guess.”

His knees brushed against mine, and I shifted on my stool. The brief contact made my skin tingle.

“Mmm,” I hummed, eyeing him head to toe. “You’re in great shape, so you like to take care of yourself. You were married. You have an eight-year-old son, but no grey hairs…Yet,” I added, cackling.

Other people at the bar turned to look at me.

My laugh has always broken the sound barrier, and the alcohol made me merry.

“Maybe you dye it.” I moved forward, getting a closer look at his hair.Long enough to run my fingers through.

I bit my lip to suppress a moan

“Do you dye it?” I whispered, curiosity getting the better of me. It looked natural, but who knows?

“No.”

My heart stopped when he edged closer to me.
