Too close.
I could feel his breath across my face. I almost buried my head in his neck and sniffed. Cedarwood, peppermint, and the hint of whiskey made my head spin.
“Thirty-four,” I blurted, needing to distract myself.
“Thirty-eight,” he corrected.
“No fair.”
He looked good.
And I needed to stop.
In slow motion—at least it felt like slow motion—I watched as he raised his hand for the second time that night, curled two fingers under my chin, and pulled my lower lip from the hold of my bite with his thumb.
“I thought I told you to stop it,” he rasped, the hint of a warning making my pulse erratic. I could feel my heart beating all over my body.
But because I’m a glutton for punishment—and I wanted to know what he would do if I didn’t do as he asked—I chewed my lip between my teeth again.
He cocked a brow, his eyes fixated on my lips, and my mouth watered with the want to taste him.
“You’re trouble, aren’t you?”
“I hope so.”
“Fuck,” he cursed, turning away, diverting his attention to his drink. “Go choose another awful song before—” He stopped.
Before what?
I wanted to ask him but thought better of it.
It was a bad idea.
Instead, I chose to take his advice.
And that’s when it happened.
My world went black.
Everything after that is foggy—until right now.
“I hit my head,” I say, suddenly realizing.
“Oh, yeah. Your leg got caught in the strap of your handbag, and you knocked yourself out.”
This couldn’t get any worse.
I bring my palms up to my cheeks to hide the furious blush. I’m practically radiating heat now.
“Oh,” I let out, wanting to curl up in a ball and die. “Have you got a shovel around here?”
“For what?”
“I want to dig myself a grave. Promise you’ll tell my family where I am so they can come to visit me.”
He’s laughing when he removes my hands from my face, and the more I look at him, the more embarrassment eats me alive.
I don’t know why I’m hot anymore, but I think most of it’s because he’s half-naked.
