He is glorious.
He takes Hannah’s hand where they stand at the edge of the pool while me and Isabel cheer them on. But she’s still not ready.
Take the leap, baby.
Jump.
He never forces her.
“I have an idea,” Logan says as he walks away and seeks shelter under the cover of the trees. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you. You can trust me on that, okay?”
She nods.
“Here, let me prove it. Your mom can go first.”
He winks at me and beckons me forward like that wink didn’t make my knees a little wobbly.
Confused, I take the steps toward him. He spins me around, so my back is to his chest, and my ass is now on full view.
His breath sweeps across my neck, inducing a shiver even in the sweltering heat. “I’m amending the contract. If you want to live here, you have to wear this every fucking day.”
Air gets trapped in my throat, and I need to cough to clear it. His chest vibrates with a low chuckle.
Today will be the day I die of heat stroke, and it has very little to do with the sun.
“Fall back,” he instructs.
With those arms, I have no doubt he will catch me, but seriously?
“A trust fall?” I laugh nervously. “I haven’t done one of those since I was a child.”
“Do it, Mom.” Hannah claps.
“Do you trust me?” he asks to my back, his voice husky.
I nod. “I think so.”
“Good enough. Now fall.”
This is stupid, but I’ll do just about anything if it helps.
I cross my arms over my chest, close my eyes, and fall back.
Just as I suspected, I fall right into his arms. When I finally open my eyes and tip my head back, he’s looking down at me.
“You caught me?”
“Wasn’t that the plan?”
I guess so.
Hannah is next, and seeing her fall into his arms means more to me than anything else, because my little girl doesn't easily trust. A part of me always carried guilt for that because I’m afraid she learned it from me.
But he catches her. He’s right there.
I make sure to grab my phone just to capture some photos.
She does it two more times, laughing her little ass off.
