Even in the tense atmosphere, Archer gives a knowing laugh. “Yourgirls?”

There’s nothing funny about the way I glare at him. “Yes, Archer.Mygirls.”

His laugh trails off. The dip of his chin is nothing but understanding.

He gets it.

“In that case, she’s family now, brother. No one fucks with family.”

Exactly.

“Judge,” I cheer, pushing the door open to his office despite the protests of his secretary struggling to run after me in her heels.

Having Jaxson walk in here caused quite the stir. Between him and Archer’s baby blues, the secretary was halfway to marriage with one of them before she noticed me sneak by.

It’s a court day for our dear judge which made finding him that much easier.

His mouth is already hanging open, his tie draped over his shoulder as he enjoys his sandwich.

“Sorry to ruin lunch.”

He remains seated in an office that smells too privileged.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Ellison.” His secretary falls against the door, out of breath. “He got passed security.”

I didn’t. I was allowed to walk straight in.

Joe is head of security here. He’s an old friend of Skip and a former member of The Kingsmen.

He’s a good guy.

We even shared a wave when I walked into the courthouse.

I ignore her. “You remember me, judge? Logan King. I’m a little older since you last saw me, but that makes both of us. Let me take you down memory lane. You’re the same man that let my father walk free after he almost beat my mother to death. Raymond King, that’s my father. As a matter of fact, I also happen to live next door to a woman who fell victim to another spineless bastard. His name sounds an awful lot like yours. Rob Ellison? Yes, that’s it. Your son, right?”

Security is at my back. I don’t need to look to know they’re there. “Call off the dogs, judge. I need five minutes and you’re going to give it to me.”

His face pales. “Lia, you can leave us.” He dismisses her with a wave of his hand.

When she leaves, he fists his hands against the desk.

It’s a power move.

This poor bastard thinks he’s already won.

“What do you want?” he snaps.

I grind my teeth and remind myself to keep my patience. Another second of staying in my head and I’ll have his jugular.

“What do I want? I want you to stay away from Beth and her girls.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I haven’t seen them since they left.”

Stepping into his office, I take a seat in his plush leather chairs.

“I have a reporter sniffing around Beth with evidence of what your son did to her.”
