Chris nodded, “You’re right. We should send two teams. One to Black Falls and one to Blood Moon. I’m not sure how much we’ll learn with the barrier Andre has in place, but the council didn’t say anything about Tate having one so we may learn something there.”

“I’ve been working on figuring out what the talisman that Dimitri was wearing is used for. It was very obviously made by a sorcerer using black magic. It is made out of tiger’s eye and quartz, but the magical properties have been twisted somehow. Usually, tiger’s eyes are used for protection, wisdom, and courage. Quartz is an amplifier, so it intensifies the power of other stones and magics. I’m still not sure how it allowed them passed the wards though.” She sounded frustrated.

Aiden patted her on the back, “You’re excellent so I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”’

She smiled, “Thanks. I do know it will not work anymore. The wards I placed should not be able to be breached in any way. I used a specific protection for any kind of dark magic.”

“I’m sorry, did someone get passed the wards?” asked Doc.

Chris cleared his throat before answering, “Uh right, sorry Doc. We’ve been keeping it quiet. The wards were breached a little over two weeks ago, but the trespasser was dealt with and as Raven just said, the wards are reinforced.”

Doc studied Chris’ face for a minute before nodding, “If you say we are safe, I believe you. However, if what happened today is any indication, there is still a problem.”

“There is. As I’m sure most of the pack has realized, Kenzie and Marshall are a bit different.” Chris waited for confirmation that Doc knew what he was talking about. When he nodded, Chris continued. “Well, they have powers, and Andre wants them. We believe that’s why he attacked the pack when they were babies, to try and take them.”

Doc growled deeply, his face twisted in anger, “That asshole killed his own daughter so he could steal power from babies?”

Aiden had never seen Marcus so mad before. He knew the Doc had been good friends with Rhiannon and had delivered Kenzie and Marshall, but he was truly furious.

Chris sighed, “Yes, that’s what we believe. It’s become pretty obvious with his actions lately. It looks like he also killed Kenzie’s adoptive mom, Megan, to get her here. We don’t know what he wants with the power though, just that he does want it.”

“I’ve been looking into his life and his past. I am hoping I’ll find the answers there.” Raven said, “Speaking of, I think I’ll head off and let them rest now that I know they’re okay. I need to get cracking on the research front. Tell them they have tomorrow off, will you? I think a break will do them good after the day they’ve had.”

Aiden stepped up to her and pulled her into a hug, “I’ll tell them. And thank you so much, for everything.”

Raven hugged him back, then pulled away, “I may not be a wolf, but this pack has always treated me like family. I would do anything to help you.”

Chris smiled and gently touched her cheek, “You are family Raven, wolf or not. You always have a home here.”

Raven’s eyes watered but she blinked away the moisture before any tears fell, “Thank you.” She fanned herself like she was brushing away the moment, “Okay, enough emotional. I’m off. Give them my love.”

She sped off before they could say anything else. He watched her walk down the road back toward her house, glad she was a part of their lives. He hadn’t taken much time to get to know her before and realized what a mistake that was. She was a great person, and he was so happy to have her on their side. But even more than that, he knew she could be an amazing friend.

“Your father is a smart man, Chris. He knew what he was doing when he brought her into the pack.”

Chris chuckled, “He has his moments. Now, I think I’m going to follow her lead and head back to the house. I’ve been looking into a few things that need my attention. Doc, will you call me if Marshall wakes up?”

Doc nodded, “Of course. I’ll take good care of them.”

“Thank you. I’ll see you both later.” Aiden watched Chris follow the same path Raven had just taken.

Doc cleared his throat, “Well, I’m going to go get some work done. You can go sit with them if you want.”

“I think I’ll just check on them, then let them sleep. They both need their rest after today.” He had some work of his own he needed to get done.

Doc nodded and motioned for him to go in, then headed off toward his office in the back of the house.

Aiden glanced into the patient room before stepping inside. Marshall was laying on his back, just as fast asleep as he’d been at the accident scene. Aiden went to him first. Once he reassured himself that his alpha was still breathing, he turned to his mate.

She was curled on her side next to Sorcha, both of them facing Marshall as if they’d been watching over him when they fell asleep.

Aiden hated seeing the cuts and bruises on the side of Kenzie’s head and was glad Raven healed them. Even hurt, he couldn’t help admiring how beautiful she was. She took his breath away every time he saw her.

When Chris called him after the accident, he’d almost had a panic attack just thinking about her being hurt. He hated that he wasn’t there to protect her, even though he knew she was becoming a formidable fighter. She would probably kick his butt across the training ring if she heard him talk like that, but he couldn’t help it.

For a moment there, he thought about what his life would be without her, but he couldn’t picture it. A life without her no longer existed. She brightened his life, bringing joy and happiness like he had never felt before.

He wouldn’t tell her yet, but he knew he was in love with her. Not just because of the fated mate pull between them, but because of who she was. She was such a strong woman. Despite everything she’s been through, she still takes every opportunity to enjoy life. She’s jumped into this new world with both feet, fully accepting all the changes.
