Aiden looked back and forth between the siblings. Kenzie had a mischievous little smile and Marshall was scowling. Then Sorcha giggled, breaking the stare down the twins were having.

Marshall’s face lightened a little when he looked at Sorcha, then he sighed in resignation. He knew he wouldn’t win this one, “Fine. But you can deal with whatever shenanigans she gets up to.”

Kenzie and Sorcha looked at each other and both smiled. Not a sweet, girly smile. Oh no. This was a smile that said they had plans and those plans were going to get them in all kinds of trouble. Honestly, he hoped so. They both needed a distraction and if the crazy pink haired witch could help with that, he was all for it.

A moment later Raven walked back into the room carrying a small wicker basket that had a few jars and herbs in it.

Marshall leaned over to take one of the jars, but Raven slapped his hand away. “No touching. Let’s get going.”

“Wait,” Kenzie stepped closer to Raven, “I thought we were going to figure out our magic?”

Raven shrugged her shoulder, “Yes love, but we are going to do it back at the pack. After I re-ward the border. I’m thinking this is something that’s going to take a while and we don’t want to advertise it. I want to get the move done before we are all tired from using any energy.”

“Oh. Right, that makes sense.” Aiden watched as Kenzie chewed her lip in thought, “Are we using the travel coins again? Cause that sucked.”

Sorcha raised her hand a little, “I agree. I think my stomach is still spinning.”

Raven smiled big, “No darling. We are going in style this time. Everyone take a seat on the floor in a circle.”

They all sat down as instructed and Raven walked around the room giving each of them one of the jars from her basket, keeping one for herself. Then she placed the herbs in the middle and lit a single white candle in the center. Once she was done, she took a seat on the floor with them.

“Alright, hold hands and close your eyes.” He looked around to see everyone else closing their eyes, so he did too and took Marshall and Kenzie’s hands.

As soon as his eyes were closed, Raven started chanting something in a language he didn’t understand. Then the room got so bright that even with his eyes closed, it was painful. It almost felt like his eyes were burning, but then the light suddenly went out and it was dark again.

“You can open now.” Raven said in a cheery voice, and he felt the circle shift and Marshall released his hand.

He peeled one eye open, to see that everything looked the same. They were still in Raven’s living room, and everyone was starting to stand back up.

“RAVEN! Dammit, what did you do?” Marshall was practically shouting now as he looked out the window.

Raven patted Marshall’s shoulder as she walked toward the front door, “Calm down puppy dog. I just moved us to the pack lands, like we talked about.”

“Not the whole damn house!” Marshall was pissed, “You set your damn house on my back lawn!”

Aiden was about to walk to the door when he heard Sorcha start laughing. Full on laughing, holding her stomach and bent over laughing. He had never seen her smile so big, and it was truly a beautiful sight. He looked over to see Marshall staring, a look of such pure joy on his face.

He didn’t want to intrude so he looked away. Instead, he looked at Kenzie who was standing next to Raven now.

Both women had soft smiles on their faces as they watched Sorcha. It made him so happy to see all of them like that. It gave him hope for the future. Hope that everything will work out the way it was supposed to.

Sorcha hiccupped as she tried to calm her laughter, which made her giggle again. Finally catching her breath, she said, “You were worried about how much she was going to pack and finding somewhere to put everything. Guess you don’t have that to worry about now!”

Marshall chuckled, and nodded, “I guess you’re right. At least the house looks small from the outside. And no moving necessary. Come on, I’m starving. Let’s get some food before trying any magic.”

They all filed out of the house, and he turned to see how it looked on the lawn. Marshall was right, it barely took up any space at all and it was closer to the woods than the house, so it wasn’t in the way.

Honestly, it might be handy having the house here. He was curious about what he could learn by rummaging through Raven’s books. She had hundreds of years’ worth of knowledge and he wanted to learn everything he could that might help them.

With or without magic, he would not let the people he cared about fight this battle alone.

Chapter 15.

Kenzie

After lunch Aiden and Sorcha went their separate ways. Marshall, Raven, and Kenzie headed off to one of the training rings to begin what Raven called “magic training”.

Raven said it would be better if they were outside in case of any fires or other mishaps.
