Both men sent an acknowledgement, then he closed the link and focused back on the conversation just as a knock sounded on the office door.

Aiden walked over and opened the door to find William and Corine on the other side. Both looked furious.

They barged in, not even acknowledging Aiden’s presence.

William spoke over whatever Colin was currently saying. He hadn’t been paying attention, so wasn’t sure which way the conversation had turned, “What the hell are you doing here?”

Arabella stepped forward, nose in the air like she smelled something she didn’t like, “It seems you have lost control of your pack. We are here to restore order.”

“The hell we have!” Marshall growled, clearly pissed now.

William held up a hand to silence Marshall, “This pack was attacked, through no fault of their own. They caught one of the culprits, who was unfortunately killed after he attacked the Alpha’s sister, and after he provided what information, he had. Those are the facts, and do not require the weight of the council. That is, unless you would like to arrest those responsible for the attacks.”

Arabella cackled, sounding more like a witch than the two standing beside her, “He attacked her? How interesting. And what of the magic Marshall and his human raised sister possess? Or the prophecy we have heard about? Were you even going to mention those?”

The vampire looked far too gleeful now.

Corine stepped up next to William and placed a hand on his arm. Aiden assumed it was to keep him from saying something he would regret. She calmly replied to Arabella, “We were getting to that next, but it appears you already know everything. We do not fully know what the prophecy is about. We plan to research it thoroughly.”

Arabella glared at Corine, “I do not believe you.”

For the first time, Aiden saw Corine lose a little of her strict control as she growled at Arabella. Guess they weren’t friends. William pulled Corine back as she took a step toward the she-vamp, who was grinning viciously.

Aiden could see a very light red ring start to shine around Arabella’s irises, showing she was even more amped up than she appeared. The vampire was enjoying this. When a vampire fully “vamped- out”, the red ring completely took over their irises, making them look like the monsters of legend.

Arabella tutted at William, “Put a muzzle on your dog.”

Marshall quickly stepped between the two women as William held Corine back. Marshall held up his hands in a placating manner, “Look, I don’t know who is feeding you information, but they seem to have left things out. William is correct. The wolf, Dimitri, attacked my sister and confessed to murdering her mother. She defended herself and he was killed, as our law decrees, his life would have been forfeit for attacking us regardless. We will send our condolences and his ashes to Alpha Tate, but that is all.”

Marshall took a breath before continuing, “As for magic. Yes, Mackenzie and I seem to have it, though, we don’t know how to use it yet. Raven La Rosa has agreed to help train us so we can control it.”

Before the vampires could say anything, Sabine spoke, “That is why we are here. I am going to assist Raven in your training. Whatever power it is that you possess needs to be controlled as soon as possible. As for Beta Dimitri…”

“Alpha Tate wants retribution, not ashes or platitudes.” Hissed Arabella.

Nikolai placed a hand on Arabella’s shoulder, and simply said, “Sestra.” Aiden knew that was Russian for sister. Under her brother’s subtle command, Arabella silenced immediately, “Alpha Tate will be dealt with. If Dimitri attacked under his orders, there will be consequences for breaking the law. If Dimitri did it on his own, he got what he deserved.”

Arabella started to say something but stopped. Aiden noticed Nicolai squeezed Arabella’s shoulder just slightly to stop her from talking again. When he glanced at the others in the room, no one else seemed to notice, but something didn’t feel right here. The whole council would not come all the way here over one wolfs death, or rumors without proof.

Aiden didn’t want to distract Marshall so would speak with him later. The vampires definitely had another agenda for being here and he was going to find out what it was. Nikolai gave in way too easily, as if that had been the plan all along. And Arabella was too cheerful over the idea of trouble between the packs.

The witches could be ruthless, but they were not bad people. In most cases, they didn’t mind working with other species. The vampires, however, were self-serving narcissists who expected everyone to bow down to them. They believed themselves to be the superior breed, expecting everyone else to fall in line. They didn’t do anything unless it would benefit them.

Marshall thanked Nikolai, then he turned to Sabine, “We would appreciate any assistance you can give in learning about these new powers. We only found out about them a few days ago and are still in a bit of shock. Raven is here now, and we started working with her earlier today.”

“Did you have any success?” asked Colin.

Marshall shrugged his shoulder, “Very little. But it’s only been one day. I have faith in Raven’s ability to help. She is quite knowledgeable.”

Aiden wasn’t sure why Marshall felt the need to validate Raven, but that’s exactly what it sounded like. She wasn’t a young witch and she seemed to know what she was doing. Though, she was a little eccentric, but weren’t most witches?

“Hm. Well, we will observe tomorrow and see what we can improve upon.” Colin stated in a condescending tone.

Aiden ground his teeth together so he would keep his mouth shut. He usually liked Colin, but right now he was being an ass. He couldn’t tell if it was because they had to come out here, or if it had something to do with Raven, but it was out of character.

Aiden didn’t know any of them well enough to know if there was bad history between them, but he had been around Raven enough to know that she was a truly good person, and she has been family to this pack for a long time.

“Alright.” Said William as he started toward the door, “I think we have covered the basics. How about we have Marilyn bring some food and get you rooms for the night. There’s plenty of time tomorrow to discuss things further.”
