"Oh, wait, that's not all. What about this implant in my arm? I want it out! I never wanted it in the first place."

The doctor smiled. "Ah, yes. We'll take it out while you're here. The surgery is brief..."

"Surgery!" I snapped. Chase cut me a stern look and squeezed my hand.

"Yes, it is considered surgery. The surgeon will make a tiny incision in your arm and remove the implant. It will require a few stitches and tack on a few more days to your hospital stay."

I groaned. "I'll be bored to tears by then."

The doctor chuckled and shook Chase's hand again as we thanked him for his help. "You're welcome. Take good care!"

Chase and I let out a collective sigh as the door clicked shut. Then he sat on the bedside and cupped my cheek. "What are we going to name our son, anyway?"

"Son.... what if our son turns out to be a daughter? " I wanted to list off the names I had been thinking about, but Chase's sexy kiss muffled my words.

He looked deeply into my eyes, his hands gently pushing away the wisps of hair on my cheeks. His voice was warm and sincere as he said, "Meagan Jackson. I love you. My feelings for you go beyond words — do you understand that?"

I grinned and nodded, awe-struck by the beauty of his words. In that instant, I realized something bigger was in motion — our family was forming. "Yes," I said softly, my heart beating faster with every passing second. "I understand." Chase enveloped me in an embrace, and I melted into his arms. "You know, Chase, I love you too."

"I think I've always known that.... after we made it past our first real date, that is," he whispered. Then, wrapping his arms around me, he drew me into a passionate kiss as my hand ventured toward the zipper of his pants.

Without warning, there were two quick knocks at the door before it flung open to reveal Ariel carrying bags of food with Guy, Amy, and Jonathan close behind. "Damn it. You two need to get a room," Guy snorted, playfully shielding Jonathan’s eyes from the potential indiscretion if he had come in mere moments later.

"We've got a room. It seems you are intruding," Chase teased, popping out of bed. "What you got there?" Chase asked, peeking into the beg. "Oh, wow, Italian...."

Not long after, as usual, Guy and Chase were over by the window holding their to-go plates, with Chase filling Guy in on all the particulars of what was going on with my health. Guy was all smiles in a few minutes, and he wrapped his arm around Ariel. Then, looking at me, he announced, "I hear congratulations are in order."

"What!? I thought you were in here because of a panic attack or something," Ariel exclaimed in disbelief — her expression filled with confusion.

"I was busy holding my nephew and forgot to tell you... I'm pregnant."

Ariel and Amy shrieked with delight as they hugged each other and laughed, doing the happy dance without me. Jonathan was initially pleased to witness his mother and babysitter acting like kids themselves. However, surprise quickly replaced the smile, and he started to cry.

"Stop it, you two! You're scaring my nephew!"

Ariel ignored my remark and began digging in her purse, "I've got to call Mom. She'll be so excited.... another baby to dote over. She'll be here later after she gets through unpacking."

While Ariel was talking to Martha, Amy opened some containers full of yummy veal cutlets and spaghetti. "Looky here...." She pulled out another smaller container.

"Let me guess. tiramisu!"

"Yep, I insisted on it," Amy giggled, arranging the food on my tray. We chatted about the details that had brought me to the hospital as she explained how her last tests were just a few weeks away. Jonathan grinned as I offered him bits of spaghetti that I'd mashed in the container’s lid.

"I'm going to need a real job soon to start paying back my college loan," Amy groaned and made an ugly face.

"I'm sure that won't be a problem with grades like yours," I reassured her.

Finally, Ariel pulled up a chair. The conversation turned serious when she asked, "What did the doctor tell you about the baby's health? Anything to worry about?"

I glanced at Chase, who was still talking to Guy in the corner. He looked up just then as if to read my mind and nodded knowingly — it would be alright to discuss with others now that we knew exactly what we were facing. "We won't know for sure until a few weeks or months. After that, I'll have frequent ultrasounds." I said, reassured.

"And the meds?"

"That's what's happening now. I'm being weaned off... Oh, shit...." I yelped, handing Jonathan to Amy.

"Chase!" I exclaimed in shock. His face contorted with worry as he hurried to my side. "I forgot to ask when I could drive again."

He rolled his eyes. "You scared me to death… You've been doing a lot of that lately."
