"Like I was going to forget!" I giggled, hopping out of bed.

Not long after, Chase requested the keys to my Mustang while we were in the garage. I was perplexed and asked, "Why are we using my car for all our trips lately? I don't mind, but being crammed in such a small space must be uncomfortable for you, even with the driver’s seat all the way back.”

"My Escalade has a lot of miles on it, and your car was parked for months. Eventually, I want to trade it in..."

As Chase opened the car door for me, I dismissed all thoughts of our vehicles and prioritized getting ready for our doctor's appointment. "Chase, I'm wrestling with a question that's been on my mind and... although it makes me feel uneasy just bringing this up, we need to talk about it. You know, prepare ourselves for the worst."

"So, you're going to ask what we’ll do if the ultrasound shows something unexpected..."

"Yeah, that." I looked down at my hands.

Chase sighed. "Megs, whatever happens, we'll get through it together." Grabbing my hand, he kissed it tenderly. "We are in this together."

I cherished his comforting presence for a few moments before my eyes wandered to the window, and my mind drifted with it. Finally, after a few moments of contemplation, I said with determined resolve, "You know what? Let's worry about one step at a time and nothing else."

It wasn't long before we were inside the clinic, and I felt my trembling fingers tying up the back of my hospital gown. Then, taking in a calming breath and letting it out slowly, I steadied myself with Chase's gentle touch on my shoulder. His presence was enough to quiet the pounding of my heart and ease away some of the nervousness growing inside me as I sat on the exam table.

The door opened, revealing a smiling ultrasound technician who introduced herself before asking us to sit in the chairs across from her desk. She explained what we could expect during the procedure, but all I heard was a soothing hum – almost like being lulled into a trance. Then Chase's grip tightened around me when it came time for me to lay on the exam table and expose my belly for the imaging. He stayed by my side while she slathered cold gel onto my stomach, making sure that his presence never wavered.

As the ultrasound machine hummed to life, I shivered in anticipation as the wand touched me. Then, barely a moment later, there was that light and steady whoosh-whoosh sound. "That's your baby's heartbeat," the tech announced joyfully, "nice and strong!"

As I watched Chase, my heart swelled with emotion. His expression was that of awe and wonder — his jaw falling slack. "Amazing.... truly amazing," he murmured in disbelief, "I never imagined..." he whispered.

I felt a strange mix of emotions swirling inside me — joy, fear, excitement — but at that moment, all that mattered was that our little miracle was right in front of our eyes. As Chase hugged me tight and kissed my cheek, I finally found the nerve to ask, "It's still too early to know the gender, right?"

"Yes.... but the next time, we should be able to tell." She said, moving the wand around carefully.

"Does the baby have... all its fingers and toes. I'm just a bit concerned,” Chase asked, while staring at the screen.

The technician grinned, "Everything looks perfect."

A wave of relief invigorated me, and I felt Chase pull me closer in a joy-filled embrace. It was a moment too beautiful to take in all at once, though we still had more tests ahead of us. But now we could be confident that our baby was safe and thriving — then the tech knitted her brows.

"Do you sense something amiss?" Chased murmured softly.

"No, nothing that’s serious," she replied before phoning Dr. Rodriguez.

The doctor stepped into the room, looking over the tech's shoulder. "Is this what I think it is?" She asked, gazing intently at the screen.

He smiled warmly and took a closer look. "Well, looks like congratulations are in order!" He announced cheerfully.

My eyes widened in shock, and I felt Chase grip my hand tightly as he asked, "Twins? Is it true? Are we looking at twins?"

The doctor nodded with a wide grin. "Yes indeed! Everything looks healthy and normal. Both babies appear to be perfectly formed — ten fingers and toes each."

I couldn't believe it – Twins?! We were going to have two little bundles of joy instead of one! I looked up at Chase with a mixture of wonder and fright as the corners of my eyes brimmed with tears.

“Can you believe it?” Chase squeezed my hand as he beamed down at me. "We'll have twice the love."

The doctor nodded before adding, "Every pregnancy is different, but from what I see here, there's nothing to worry about. You two are going to be amazing parents. Meagan, this is truly a miracle. If you'd told me you would be carrying twins a few months ago, I wouldn't have believed it."

As he spoke, I felt overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible gifts that lay ahead of us coupled with uncertainty over all the challenges and surprises that come with raising children. But no matter what came our way, we would face it together. Chase and I had a beautiful story that was only beginning. As he lovingly kissed my hand, I felt more confident than ever that our happy ending awaited us.

To ensure the tech had all she needed for the rest of the exam, Dr. Rodriguez wished us well before leaving us with our joyous news. As we watched her latch the door behind her, Chase pulled me close in an embrace filled with amazement and love. "We're going to have two little miracles," He whispered softly against my hair, "Two beautiful babies who will call us Mommy and Daddy — how incredible is that?"

As he led me to the car, I felt like I was floating in the air. Tears of joy flooded my eyes. I hugged him close, knowing our lives would undergo the most significant and beautiful transformation yet. We would become a family of four — what a magical journey to look forward to!

We rode home in blissful silence, lost in our own thoughts as we looked forward to the contrasting emotions of telling friends and family about the new arrivals. Then I had an idea and clapped my hands. "Let's throw a dinner party when we get to Vail.... you know, keep it a secret for a few days and then surprise everyone at a restaurant or something like that." I ran my hand through my hair. "What do you think? I'll talk to Amy about it. She's always good with stuff like this... to make it fun for everyone."
