"Right?!" she said. "Anyway, I questioned them because I know they don't want me running the company, but they respect my father. They said they made the same stipulation for my brother. Which is why he probably said he was going his own way. That leaves me. And I never thought I would have anything like that. Let's face it, if it weren't for my father's guidance, I'd be nobody. I'd be a rich girl living off her father."

"I don't think that's true," I said before I could even think. "You may have had guidance from your father, but you did everything yourself. You gotta give yourself credit."

She looked as shocked at my statement as I was. For some reason, even though I didn't think I had a comforting gene in my body, I somehow automatically wanted to make her feel better. She smiled. "Anyway, I said something in a panic that is biting me in the ass. I told them I had a boyfriend, and we were already talking about marriage."

I scrunched my nose. "And I'm assuming that's not true."

She scoffed. "I haven't even been on a second date with anyone in three years. The guys I meet are either assholes just trying to get laid, losers who just want my father's money, or complete morons. I don't have time for morons. And I don't want to be with someone just because they'd be a good fit for the family."

"What are you going to do?"

She shrugged. "I have no idea. I would have to find someone willing to marry me and play along until I got the position. I would have to do all of that in a week. And they need to be believable. So, someone I can take to dinner next Friday night, and they won't get eaten alive by my family. Those kinds of men are hard to find."

"I'm sure," I said, chuckling.

She took another sip of her coffee, looking over her cup at me. Then, finally, she stopped, looked around my apartment, and then down at her cup again. I could see she was deep in thought, which made me a little nervous.

"You know what?" she said, putting her coffee down. "You would be perfect."

Oh shit.

Chapter Six

Ryder

I stood up and shook my head. "Whoa. I mean, I'm all about helping friends out, but I don't think I'm the guy for this job."

Amber stood up and looked me up and down. "No, you're perfect for the job. You're successful, you're single…."

"How do you know I'm single?"

She lifted a brow, and I sighed. "That's not the point."

"You are part owner of a huge company, so you speak my father's language. You look good in a suit, so the media would love it. And you know how to deal with douchebags, which is basically what I am surrounded by all day, every day."

I backed up, and she stepped forward. I shook my head, putting my hands out. "No. That's a terrible idea. Plus, none of our friends would believe it for a second."

She shrugged. "So we tell them the truth and swear them to secrecy. Look, it wouldn't be a lifelong commitment. We would announce it, throw a party, take the vows, and after I'm made CEO, they can't take it back without cause. So we wait just a little while to make it believable and then cite irreconcilable differences, and we divorce. On top of that, my father would probably hire your company to do the tech work on the new offices opening up around the country. It would be a multimillion-dollar deal. So, you'd get something out of it too."

"That's crazy," I said, laughing. "There's no way. No one would believe it."

"Why?" she asked.

"Because you and I are complete opposites," I said, trying to ignore how hot she looked in my shirt as she walked toward me.

"So. I bet we could make it believable. Come on. Try it on. Kiss me."

"What?" I laughed nervously.

She walked right up to me and grabbed me by the front of my shirt. "Kiss me."

She hovered in front of me for several seconds, and the pull toward her was unbelievable. I grabbed her shoulders and leaned in, pressing my lips to hers. Slowly her hand loosened, and a small whimper echoed out. I pulled back, and we stared at each other for several seconds. Finally, she touched her fingers to her lips, her eyes wide.

"Wow," she whispered.

I was echoing the same sentiment as electricity shot up through my body. I grabbed Amber again, this time pulling her into me as our mouths intertwined. Her hands gripped my chest and moved to the buttons on my shirt, frantically pulling at them. I leaned down and scooped her into my arms, walking toward the bedroom. Setting her down, I pulled my suspenders off and reached for the front of her shirt, unbuttoning it and pulling it off, throwing it to the side. She backed up and scooted back on the bed, wearing nothing but a pink and black lace bra and panty set.

I pulled off my shirt and let my pants fall to the floor, stepping out of them. I crawled toward Amber, running my hands up her smooth legs. A voice in the back of my head asked what I was doing, but I ignored it. I felt drunk, but not from alcohol. I felt drunk from her taste and how she looked at me with her sultry eyes. I ran my tongue up her legs and across her stomach, pulling the cups of her bra down. Her large, bouncing breasts heaved as I ran my tongue around her nipples, sucking them into my mouth.
