“Her products, you mean? That make her a significant amount of money?”

“That.”

“You don’t think maybe you should show interest in what the love of your life does?”

“I do when she’s around, even if I don’t understand. So spill, why are you in Ryker Falls?”

“How do you know I didn’t visit Maggs? She is my favorite after all.”

“That hurts, bro.” Nash tried to look sad and failed. “But seriously, what are you doing in Ryker Falls today?”

Ford pointed to the sign above the door he’d just walked out of. Nash read it. Ford then held up the roll of plans.

“You do fast work, bro. How do they look?”

“I’m happy with them.”

“Can I see?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because you’ll want to make changes, and that’s not happening.”

Nash nodded in agreement. “It’s true. I would. You building it yourself?”

“Some of it, with your help.”

“I can do that,” Nash said. “You got some time to spare now?”

“For what?” Ford looked at his brother because it was best to do that when he wanted you to do something. Otherwise you’d be shoveling shit before you realized it. Nash could be a sneaky bastard.

“For the schoolkids. Turns out they’re having a volunteer workday today, and I have a ton of stuff in my pickup I’m donating to the cause. Could use your help unloading it.”

“What are they working on?” Ford hesitated. Autumn Harris worked at the school here in Ryker Falls, and he didnotwant to see her again. He’d had a few dreams about that woman, and none of them were comfortable.

He understood physical attraction and had acted on it a time or two, but this was different. He’d felt a surge of something primal when he saw her again. The more time he spent with her that night, the more it grew. She was sweet, shy, and nice. But it was the vulnerability he sensed in her that rocked him.

And how the fuck do you know she’s vulnerable?

“Hello.” Nash waved a hand before his face.

“Why are you waving to me when I’m standing right here?”

“You aren’t listening to me.”

“And this is new?”

“So is that a yes?”

“I guess I can spare some time. I was up early doing your work at the ranch.”

“It’s my day off.”

“I don’t get those,” Ford said, needling his brother. “Can I ask what the hell a coffee run is?”

They turned as one to look at the new banner strung across Main Street.
